Ex-Beauty Queen Carrie Prejean Marries Footballer

It was opposite [marriage] day in San Diego on Friday as former Miss California USA Carrie Prejean married NFL quarterback Kyle Boller in what E! News describes as a "lavish ceremony."

The "I do's" went down inside the Capella chapel at Grand Del Mar Hotel, which features hand-carved pews from Italy and can hold around 280 guests.

"It was beautiful," a hotel guest who spotted the scene told E!. The former beauty queen wore a traditional gown and the groom, who recently signed with the Oakland Raiders, donned a tux.

Prejean, 23, and her 29-year-old beau met last July, shortly after she caused quite a stir with her comments opposing same-sex marriage (in favor of the "opposite" kind, she later said) at the 2009 Miss USA pageant.

When asked by blogger Perez Hilton to reveal her stance on gay marriage, she replied: "I think in my country, in my family, I think that I believe that a marriage should be between a man and a woman. No offense to anybody out there, but that's how I was raised."

Despite a considerable amount of bad publicity, pageant owner Donald Trump initially stood by Prejean until she began booking speaking engagements outside of her beauty queen duties. In June, Trump stripped her of her sash, citing "continued breach of contract issues."

Prejean sued pageant officials for religious discrimination, but withdrew the lawsuit in November when an "extremely graphic" sex tape, a solo performance mind you, was revealed to exist. Since then, Prejean wrote a book, joined the public speaking circuit and made numerous TV appearances, including a notorious visit to 'Larry King Live' where she threatened to walk off.

Prejean was never in a position to legislate the fate of gay marriage. The woman merely expressed an opinion. And really,who cares what she thinks? This is America, not Nazi Germany. There are despicable people out there, like the president of BP, much more deserving of hatred than this harmless little mote who has now graciously removed herself from the public eye. And who knows, maybe she and Perez Hilton were in on a deal together. Publicity is publicity, after all. They both won, didn't they?
