Tammy Lynn Michaels 'Blindsided' by Split With Melissa Etheridge

After nearly nine years together, Melissa Etheridge and Tammy Lynn Michaels have officially ended their relationship. Court records show Melissa Etheridge filed the paperwork on Friday in Los Angeles. They announced their separation in April, and the rocker told Oprah Winfrey it was mutual, but "sad."

Tammy Lynn Michaels ranted on her blog twice in one day to say she was completely blindsided by the filing.

In court papers Etheridge requested joint custody and asked that she not have to pay Michaels any support.

In a poem written on Michaels' blog, she writes the pair had agreed not to do anything until the fall:

SMACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
FILE FOR DIVORCE!!!!!!

agreed

no filing until after tour
in the fall

The rocker and 'L Word' actress exchanged vows in Malibu in September 2003. While the statement from the publicist described the rocker and actress as "married," California law did not allow marriages between same-sex couples at the time. Once same-sex marriage was legally recognized in California in 2008, the two planned to wed but they never made it down the aisle.

Tammy gave birth to their children, son Miller and daughter Johnnie Rose, in 2006.

Etheridge is also mom to two other children, Bailey, 13, and Beckett, 11, with former partner Julie Cypher.

"Typical man?" A break-up about which we know nothing makes anyone a bad person in your mind???? And doing something wrong - which we don't know she did! - is a woman acting like a man???? How judgmental about everything and everyone - Melissa, her relationship and break-up, men...anything I left out????

What is a "typical man"? How do "they" all think and act???? And if Melissa is acting just like one of "them" doesn't that contradict what you are saying???? Or are you hating on lesbians, accusing lesbians of acting "like men"? I am a woman, by the way. I just agree that you can NOT generalize about "men" or "woman" or "lesbians" or any other group of people. I thought we were all learning this.
