Kelsey Grammer Slams 'Malicious' Father's Day Rumor

Last week, Kelsey Grammer's third wife, Camille Donatacci Grammer, pulled the plug on their 13-year marriage. It was reported by TMZ that the breaking point occurred on Father's Day, when the actor allegedly didn't fly home or call his kids, however, Grammer is now calling that rumor "malicious."

"The truth is I did call my kids that evening," he writes on his website, KelseyLive.com. "Frankly, I was surprised that they did not call me in the morning, but I was thousands of miles away and working that day so I didn't give it a second thought." The couple's two children, Mason, 8, and Jude, 5, are in Los Angeles with Donatacci.

"I called them to see how they were doing as I do almost every night at around the same time, 11 PM my time, 8 PM their time, just before they go to bed," he writes. "Mason had been upset earlier that day because she was missing me. I spoke to her for some time and reassured her that I loved her and that I would be seeing her soon."

"Gossip and the rumor mill always thrive during times like these, as in the Father's Day story. Whatever might be said, I ask that you take the 'high road.' I intend to do the same."

Grammer went on to explain the circumstances of their decision to divorce. "Camille and I had been discussing the possibility of a separation for some time before all this happened. She finally decided she should file. I respect her for this decision ... I hope to have a great partnership with her in the raising of our children."

Donatacci's lawyer filed a divorce petition last Thursday citing "irreconcilable differences," TMZ is reporting.

Donatacci, a 41-year-old former Playboy model and dancer, is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the children. She married the 'Frasier' actor in 1997, a year after they met at a party thrown by MTV.

Does anyone stay married anymore? Seems it is just easier to walk away. These Hollywood romances are a joke.

They were married for 13 years - these days in or out of Hollywood, that is a long time - I know people who only stayed married for under a year. So, this is not a Hollywood phenomenon. I do wish Kelsey would try a different "type" of woman though, maybe he'd have more luck with a more cerebral than silicon woman!

WTF??? It was Fathers Day. Even if he contacts them every night of the week when he's away, on that day they should have been the ones contacting him

I just want to submit that the burden is on the children to call their father for Father's Day, not vice versa. His calling his children would be akin to me calling my husband on my birthday for him to tell me happy birthday.

At ages 5 and 8 the burden is on the mother to encourage the kids to call daddy not the kids. Wish them all the best.

Something about Kelsey Grammer is just not right. I can't put my finger on it since I have only seen him on TV programs in scripted roles. Just something about him that gives me the feeling that I wouldn't want to be his friend.

That is so funny that you said that because for years now I too thought that there was something not right with Mr. Grammer. To me he has this strange personality that of an abuser or a sneaky person.. but as you said Just cant put my finger on it.. Thank goodness his wife is leaving him..Who knows what goes on behind closed doors and I do believe something is just not right with that household.. or him...

Kelsey Grammer has had a very difficult life:

His father was murdered in the Virgin Islands. His sister was murdered while finishing a shift working at a Red Lobster in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Had two step brothers (from his Dad's second marriage) that were killed in a shark/scuba accident.

That could be damaging to a person to suffer so much loss.

Let's see if I understand this correctly. The wife is claiming he didn't call his kids on Father's Day? At that young an age, it seems the kids should be calling their Dad, with help from Mum, even if it's only to leave a voice mail. Did she see to it they had cards in the mail? Was she really stupid enough to leak this chestnut to the press? WAY more telling on her part!

You are right, I missed that one, see what happened was they get paid for this and I don't. But if I did I would look at 5or 6 times before I send it out.
