Conan O'Brien's 'Tonight Show' Nominated for Emmy, Nothing for Jay Leno

'The Tonight Show With Conan O'Brien' earned its first and only Emmy nomination this morning.

Conan will compete against 'The Colbert Report,' 'The Daily Show,' 'Real Time With Bill Maher' and 'Saturday Night Live' in the Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Series category.

'The Tonight Show With Jay Leno' was not nominated, although NBC submitted Leno's work, while O'Brien's own people submitted his.

NBC forced Leno to leave 'Tonight' in 2009, handing the reigns over to O'Brien and giving Jay his own primetime show. But after only seven months, Leno's 'The Jay Leno Show' failed to catch on and Conan's ratings lagged, so the network booted Conan from the 'Tonight Show' and reinstated Leno.

O'Brien will have a new show on TBS beginning in November. Interestingly enough, TBS launched a campaign to nominate Conan for an Emmy.

Conan's show was genius and got cancelled way too early. Just like a million shows on TV. I hope he wins, I'm rooting for him. SNL is pretty great too

Emmys and Oscars are just political events and have nothing to do with fan preference. If you are a fan and get all worked up over these kinds of shows, you must be someone who watches QVC 24/7 cuz you are addicted to marketing. Next thing is that Kanye West will grab the mike and say that Leno should not be on that show, Beyonce should have been given that show, its just racism...and the year before he said Bush hates blacks. Seriously do you watch these shows? Why?

Leno was removed from the Tonight Show time slot because of bad ratings ..And since he has returned the ratings have not improved .In fact the best they have done since Leno's return is tie Conan's ratings which weren't that good..So what did NBC gain from all this ? Not a thing . It just cost them a lot of money for nothing .I honestly believe Leno will be gone in the near future .NBC can't afford to keep taking a hit in the ratings .

You are SO wrong. Leno was number 1 in the time slot when NBC forced him to retire (because Conan said he would leave the station if he didn't get the Tonight Show). He didn't leave for bad ratings at all.

I love Conan when he is relaxed and just being his hilarious self. Leno is pretty good at doing what he does but he's not funny. I hate it when they get really nasty though. (sexually nasty that is)

Conan is perhaps the most untalented person around...this guy is not funny at all and he get a nomination...are u kidding me with this garbage??? So much for the emmys..why bother to watch to see who wins..what a set up! Conan walked away with big bucks to exit the tonite show so why should anyone feel anything for him...sorry...I DON"T THINK SO!!! Creep!

Conan deserved this so much. He has worked hard to get to this point and it got him an Emmy and millions of people supporting him. I have known all along Conan would go really far one day and he has. And he's not done yet. Conan has achieved so much in the last five years than Leno has in the past 20. TEAM COCO FOREVER. WE ALL LOVE YOU CONAN.

He didn't get an Emmy he got an Emmy nomination. He's had plenty, because the nominations are all a popularity contest, who throws the best parties and who spends the most on ads. Leno wasn't even eligible for an Emmy this year for The Tonight Show because he wasn't on during the time period needed, but he doesn't play that phony game anyway.

Well excuse my little mistake. A nomination is what I meant. Everyone knows that Leno is worth more money than Conan, hence Conan got booted out. I think with Leno always being in the limelight for an older people and everyone knows it's the older people who get a say in everything, Leno has been the more popular one for 20 years. Conan being more for a younger generation, has not had enough spotlight as he deserves. He is just funnier and he deservse it more. And you call the Emmy's phony? Yeah there one of the most popular award shows of our time. So Leno doesn't even deserve one if you ask me. Thats all I'm sayin.

This the emmys are really going to suck,first charlie sheen now Leno.This is sounds like there rewarding the cry babies Conan being one of the biggest of them all.I want be watching there going for talent sounds like a pity party for alot of them

Conan got the shaft? I don't think so. Hollywood is so political and I can hardly feel sorry for him and his 35 million for what 6 months work? I wish him the best but there's not pity from me. And as for him being nominated, who cares?
