Who: Chase Coy Single: 'If the Moon Fell Down' Album: 'Picturesque' Hails From: Greenwood, Ind. For Fans Of: Never Shout Never, Stephen Jerzak
Why He's About to Pop: Chase Coy began writing his acoustic pop songs in the basement of his parents' house when he was 16. Only three years later, he's recorded two EPs, was named one of the best new singer-songwriters on the iTunes charts, signed with a major record label and released his debut album, 'Picturesque.' 'If the Moon Fell Down,' one of the tunes on his new record, even features the talent of singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat, who sings the introspective love song as a duet with Coy.
"She was amazing to work with in the studio, though I'll admit I was a little nervous going in and producing a song with an artist of her level on it," Coy tells PopEater. "As soon as I met her, though, she gave off such a warm, laid-back vibe that the nerves just disappeared."
Check out the video clip and exclusive interview with Coy below to see how his collaboration with Caillat came about. Plus, find out what his musical guilty pleasure is, the thing he can't live without on the road and what phobia resulted in him running his car into a mailbox.

What made you decide to start writing your own songs?
I have always loved music and writing, and when I began looking for a creative outlet to sort through my life, it seemed like the perfect option to begin songwriting. It started out with some simple songs I wrote and performed for classmates in my middle school choir class, and eventually developed into what I now do full time, and I couldn't be happier.
Why did you choose to feature Colbie Caillat on 'If the Moon Fell Down'?
I really wanted to record 'If the Moon Fell Down' as a duet for this record, and when I made a list of possible artists to feature, her name was at the top of the list. As I began to get further into talks with labels, Universal Republic came to the head of the pack and her name was thrown out by them to be the female voice in the duet before I had even mentioned it, so it all just fell into place.
In the song, love masks anything going wrong. But do you have any fears or phobias?
I have a phobia of insects and spiders. I actually had an incident recently involving a praying mantis while I was driving that resulted in me running into a neighbor's mailbox and breaking the side mirror on my car. It was huge! Luckily their mailbox came out of it much better than my car [laughs].
How would you describe your new album 'Picturesque?'
It's an album about love and loss and life. It deals a lot with distance, and that sense of longing when you can't be near your loved ones. But more than anything, I think it's about hope. It's about having a positive outlook no matter your situation and being optimistic about the future. And it's all wrapped up in an intimate acoustic setup, backed by a warm, lush, and sometimes expansive, string section.
If you could collaborate with any musician, alive or dead, who would it be and why?
There are so many talented musicians out there that it's hard to choose, but two artists that I really look up to are Rocky Votolato and Owen. If I was going to collaborate with anyone, they would definitely be at the top of my list. They're both brilliant lyricists and musicians who have had a huge influence on my music.
Do you have any guilty pleasures on your iPod?
I have every song 3OH!3 has ever released, which isn't so embarrassing because I have it on my iPod, but more because I crank it to ridiculous volumes and hardcore dance in my room to it.
What will be in your on-the-road survival kit when you go on tour?
Chocolate. I absolutely cannot live without chocolate. Chocolate pretzels, a chocolate candy bar, chocolate milk, chocolate ice cream -- does not matter. So long as I have chocolate, I'll be great.
Can music get any lamer? Looks like ANYONE these days can make a CD and some suckers out there will buy it. The list is endless but I know you're thinking Bieber right now, huh??!!
@fiona have you actually listened to him? if you had, you'd know that he is NOT AT ALL like Beiber. First off, he's actually gone through puberty, which is appreciated. And its because of people like you who are writing off good music just because of someone's looks that talented musicians are going unnoticed and are not appreciated. Good job. This kid puts everything he has into his music, and its impressive that he's writing, playing, producing, and mixing at his age. I don't know who spit in your coffee, but you should probably think or at least look into something before you jump the gun like that.
