Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes Try to Make it Work

After separating earlier this year, Kate Winslet and director hubby Sam Mendes are giving their marriage another shot. The couple, who split after nearly seven years of marriage, have one son, Joe, and raise Winslet's daughter, Mia, from the actress's previous marriage to director Jim Threapleton.

Winslet and Mendes were introduced by mutual friend Emma Thompson in 2001 after Winslet ended her marriage to Threapleton. The pair married in 2003.

Although the couple made the announcement of their amicable split less than four months ago, Newser reports that Winslet and Mendes are spending the summer together trying to "reignite their spark" at one of their homes in England.

"Sam has always been able to walk away from girlfriends before, but now there are children involved he wants to see if he can work it out with Kate," a source says.

So Sam is only staying in it because of their kid? I bet Kate loved hearing that one! I don't think that's always the best idea. No kid wants to see their parents fighting, etc. I always thought they were cute together though, I hope it works out for the best.

They'll NEVER make it.

I have only to look at that photo of them and I know their whole relationship.

He's self-centered, egotistical, and what's worse, he's insecure which he masks with bravado. HE'S joking with the press while she's paying attention TO HIM.

Kate, on the other hand, is giving and caring, trying to boost his little ego even in public, where the photographers are obviously NOT there for him but for her. She ignores herself and tries to give the spotlight to him.

This man wants what he wants and when he wants it, period. There's no room for Kate in his weak psyche.

In a million years she can't make it with a man who's this much of a childish brat. Poor Kate.

I think you're right. When I looked at the picture Winslet seems sincerely into him but he is totally focused on the camera. I don't think that he agreed to reconcile because of the children. I think the fire just went out of the affair.

But I'm a romantic and I hope he's found that the pasture is greener in the valley he has taken for granted.

Wow, you got all that from a photo Gabi? Have you never seen either of them interviewed - both seem pretty egotistical to me and must butt heads a lot trying to be the big "I am".

I hope they can reignite the spark of love that created their child, but if not, do not stay together for the child, that never ends well - been there, done that, had the therapy and kids ALWAYS blame themselves, don't make him go through this twice if it isn't going to work.

Wasn't it just a short while ago these two were making the tv rounds, speaking oh so mature and sophisticated, explaining how thay had no problem filming her naked love scenes with Titanicboy or somebody? Face it, these celebrities are all good at their craft, but most are human trash underneath the glitter.

For the kids, if they are not happy, that effects the kids too, maybe he ought to stick to what he is good at, Revolutionary Rd. is the best directed acting that I have ever seen in a movie!
