Joy Behar: Mel Gibson Is Not Welcome on 'The View'

Although Whoopi Goldberg defended Mel Gibson on 'The View,' co-host Joy Behar told 'The Insider' that the actor isn't welcome on their program.

"Barbara [Walters] would not allow him on the show," she says.

"Barbara's Jewish, he's an anti-Semite, he's a racist ... so he's done," Behar said, adding that the show would never grant him an opportunity to defend himself.

The tapes, of which RadarOnline.com has released three parts thus far, feature an enraged Gibson bellowing at the mother of his 8-month-old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva, relentlessly employing C-words, F-bombs and, sadly and disturbingly, racial slurs including the N-word.

"I know Mel, and I know he's not a racist," Whoopi said on 'The View' on Monday. "I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he's being a bonehead, but I can't sit and say that he's a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids. I don't like what he's done, make no mistake."

Behar points out she does not agree with her co-host. "I am surprised, but that's her position, it's called 'The View.'" Behar's full interview will air July 13 on 'The Insider.'

Wow - it is frightening how conservatives will turn a blind eye to the evil doings of Mel Gibson because he is one of them. I don't care what this woman did, no one deserves to be treated like he was treating her. You are one sick batch of puppies if you think it is excusable.

you must be a close relative and live with mel. how can you be so analytical unless you're with them 24/7. i don't think anyone knows anyone as well as you know 'the gibsons'. sheesh...

Well the view has issues also and Joy Behar is actually offensive in her own way on may conservative fronts. Mel Gibson doesn't need to talk with her about anything, he should be working things out within himself and his family. I hope he can find the peace he is looking for, it is sad to see someone so talented being blasted across the media as entertainment. Makes me wonder about the young lady who has 2 children and not married,what she is really all about. I would not want his children to be in harms way, but her putting this stuff out there is not a good choice. And her sad tale about the money really sounds a whole lot more like she is wanting some of the mans millions. I do not believe she is innocent. She should never have been with a married man in the first place. She needs help too. Will Joy Behar let her on the show. And why on earth would someone go on any show to explain how messed up they are to the whole world? Just to be picked apart by others who have no more sense than they do.

I used to watch the view, but I think it's horrible that they are so quick to judge Mel. They believe that golddigger ho, and are willing to listen to her and not him???I'm sure he's not racist and it was her set up. She is a snake who gets pregnant by famous men to collect child support. Too bad everyone is quick to judge. At least Whoopi knows that every story has two sides.

I think Joy is ridiculous. Who Does Joy behar think she is? She with out sin cast the first stone. The only stupid thing I think Mel Gibson did was to be with this young woman, he probably stuffered some sort of mid life crisis. But he had this argument in his own home.. how many of us have said things in our own home out of anger but it wasn't made public all over TV etc.This young gal he trusted and she not only betrayed and humiliated him but also the father of her child..probably over money. Shame on all the judgeful people out there and shame on her.Shame on the media for propagating this and turning on one of their own.

I don't watch The View and when her other show is on, I can't switch channels fast enough. I think you need to put her and that housewife Jill Z. together, they would each talk over each other that that would be funny to watch!

In re: Mel, I think that WHoopi got the clinical diagnosis just about right. Mel is a BONEHEAD. He had a fine career and legions of adoring fans, both of which he tossed away to be with a woman not his wife. I cannot see how going on The View would cure that.

peach, your the one with you head up a tabloid's arse. she CLAIMS he knocked her teeth out, and if you listen to the tapes, she's obviously pushing his buttons, knowing she's recording and will make money off of him. mel's far from perfect, but a gold digger is a gold digger and get what they deserve. There is her side of the truth and his side of the truth and somewhere inbetween is the Truth. Speculation about either one of them is an exercise in futility. It does sound like he's out of country and that she may be after fame and fortune. On the other hand, they may have started out with mutual attraction and love. He's responsible for the breakup of his marriage, regardless of whether she was involved with him at the time. Actually each party is responsible for their own actions in this unfolding melodrama. There are no winners here, most especially their baby daughter and his children by his wife. I've lost enormous respect for him because of his behavior but that doesn't make him a totally bad person. I choose not to see any future films he makes but that's a personal choice. Everyone's entitled to their own opinion and actions.
