Joy Behar: Mel Gibson Is Not Welcome on 'The View'

Although Whoopi Goldberg defended Mel Gibson on 'The View,' co-host Joy Behar told 'The Insider' that the actor isn't welcome on their program.

"Barbara [Walters] would not allow him on the show," she says.

"Barbara's Jewish, he's an anti-Semite, he's a racist ... so he's done," Behar said, adding that the show would never grant him an opportunity to defend himself.

The tapes, of which RadarOnline.com has released three parts thus far, feature an enraged Gibson bellowing at the mother of his 8-month-old daughter, Oksana Grigorieva, relentlessly employing C-words, F-bombs and, sadly and disturbingly, racial slurs including the N-word.

"I know Mel, and I know he's not a racist," Whoopi said on 'The View' on Monday. "I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he's being a bonehead, but I can't sit and say that he's a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids. I don't like what he's done, make no mistake."

Behar points out she does not agree with her co-host. "I am surprised, but that's her position, it's called 'The View.'" Behar's full interview will air July 13 on 'The Insider.'

I think that Mel has gone over the deep end. He will be on Larry King tonight-I am not a fan of his, but just this once I'm going to watch, just to see what Mel has to say for himself!

I am sure Larry King will bow down before him.

People are lacking the understanding of what truly is going on here. Here is a man whose lifelong marriage crumbles and is enticed by a younger woman who is now after Mel's money. Who is really the victim here. I think it is Mel.

As an advocate for the prevention of domestic violence, I don't condone his behavior and have zero tolerance for discrimination, however, what is worse, is this young woman whom knew his history and chose to go with a married man, an alleged alcoholic, and a man that is known to go off with his ignorant rants. I believe knowing full well, with eyes wide open, this women knew exactly how to get his money and taped their argument for media and blackmail to extort money from him. She could've filed for divorce, asked for child support and left him if she was offended by his behavior, not air their dirty laundry!
Why wouldn't the "View" allow him on the show to defend himself, this is a great opportunity to let him hear what others are feeling of his discriminatory rants, they allowed other known abusive people, people that have been verbally and physically abusive and are immoral.
The man is a talented film maker and actor, and watching Roman Polanski or Woody Allen films are just as bad if not worse than Mel Gibson's verbal abuse! Charlie Sheen, arrested for allegedly physically abusing his wife while drunk, yet, he's allowed to work, others will watch him, due to his acting career and not to say, who would give up going to a Madonna Concert or a Yankee Baseball game due to the immoral behavior of Madonna and A-Rod...
Mel Gibson does need psychological treatment, and hear what others do feel of his ignorant and discriminatory rants. Imus' believe the one that bad mouth the young black basketball team is listened to and allowed to work, why not Mel?
We are not the judge or jury and have no right to judge others unless we're God and haven't made mistakes ourselves. We don't have to like others, as they don't have to like us, nor do we have to agree with others, but we do have to show respect! Mel, fell from that tree, and now needs to get intensive treatment, know that he's wrong and take responsibility and own up to his actions!

Agreed. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. I agree with Today's Lady Doctor. He needs help and he needs it fast. We're only hearing the conversation up to the point when Oksana gets him out of control. Also, as for Joy I wish she would leave take over for Larry King when he goes and leave the View. I don't know why I even watch it anymore. Sick of all the liberalism. Elisabeth can't get a word in anymore.

What a democracy "The VIEW" must be. Beho calls the shots for the entire cast of "PMS in the PM"? I like the post one of the earlier blogger made; "being banned from The View is like being asked to leave KMART". He should feel pleased that he hit them where it hurts the most; THE RATINGS.
