Mel Gibson's Friends Turn Their Backs on Him

tapes set to be exposed, friends who once defended the troubled 'Edge of Darkness' actor are now running for cover. "Mel is in a very dark place," one insider tells me.
"None of his friends, even those who have defended him in the past, want anything to do with him publicly or privately."
Back in 2006, when Gibson's anti-Semitic rant was exposed, several Hollywood big wigs, including 'The Patriot' producer Dean Devlin and actress Jodie Foster, stood by his side.
"Is he an anti-Semite?" Foster asked. "Absolutely not. But it's no secret that he has always fought a terrible battle with alcoholism."
It was widely believed that Gibson has been sober since the early '90s, although people close to him say he has been on and off the wagon for years. "I have been with Mel when he has fallen off, and he becomes a completely different person," producer Devlin said back in 2006.
Now those close to Mel worry it has happened once again. Mel knows his career is over with the release of this tape and is hoping he can still save his legacy. Ten to fifteen years from now, he wants to be remembered as a great actor and father, not the man of those tapes. But I fear that ship has sailed already, Mel.

I have enjoyed Mel's work over the years, but these remarks and past ones show that the man is both an idiot and needs help. I'll probably never see anything he makes in the future--if he has a future in movies.

Mel has been known forever for his temper and his alcoholism, with his temper growing 10 times worse while drunk. Oksana knows this, so she set up a perfect scenerio here, and she probably didnt mind being socked in the mouth. In the end a huge settlement will be paid out to her either before or during a civil suit.
These stars, muscians will just never get it. They are taken advantage of, especially if they have a huge problem like Mel that is predictable and manipulated. But do we really feel sorry for them? Hell most of us regular none rich people know when someone is using us or wanting something from us, why dont stars?
Like Lindsays camp, and Britneys camp, and all the other camps, oh they are causing their problems, they bring bad people into their lives that take advantage of them, take their money, get them hooked on drugs and alcohol etc. etc. Then these campers either write a book or get a huge settlement to shut up.
We are suppose to feel sorry for any of these stars? They pick smart conniving people to work for them, hang out with, have babies with, marry, sue them, write books, take their money and we are suppose to forgive them, or feel sorry for them because they end up on drugs, alcoholic, beat women?
Like all of us are told, we make our own beds, and we have to sleep in them. We are responsible for our actions good and bad and I think Mel is actually going into the senile part of his aging. It is really sad to hear him on those recordings, and I do believe he would harm Oksamabama, but then again, I might want to harm her too. She is a wicked witch as is anyone who uses other people. But Mel doesnt like condoms, Mel wants to cheat on his wife, so he pays the prices.

I feel sick about all the news regarding Mr. Gibson's rage and years of alcoholism. If I were a friend of his, I would not turn my back on him. I suffer from and am being treated for major depression and other psychiatric disorders. I know from experience that these illnesses can also bring about fits of rage and a feeling that everyone is against you and that you hate the world. So, I think I can empathisize with what Mr. Gibson is going through and has been going trough for years. I may be wrong, but I don't think that he is inherently and bad person; I think he is in a lot of pain and needs help; I pray that he receives it.
Mr. Gibson, I do not condone what you are doing, but I don't have a right to judge you. I am sad for what you are going through and will always remain a fan. Please get some help!

What's sad is, now is when he needs his friends the most. I know, when my wife ran off with another man, I lost the only thing I had in this world worth living for. Nothing else mattered then. And yes, I wanted to kill them both!! At that point, I found out who my real friends were. People who cared about me, knew I was angry and hurting, and didn't want to see me do something stupid I would regret later. That's the kind of friend he needs now. Wish I could be there for him. Right now, I'll bet he regrets the day he ever met her!

Mel was duped by this woman. She is a self serving shameless publicity seeker. This is a private matter of all kinds of issues. Mel must have found her out, (a littel too late) and lashed out at her. He has anger issues no doubt, couple that with alcohol, and it's not a pretty picture. She knew that and egged him on so she had a story to sell to the tabloids. There are other avenues to pursue if she loved him and wanted to truly help him and needed help herself.. NOT THE MEDIA!!!! Mel is a talented man with many many great gifts. I hope he can get the help he really needs, and can find a place where he can be at peace. I expect him to shine again in the future. Go back to Robin, Mel, if she will have you.

Doesn't sound like there is a law in all of this nation to protect Mel's girlfriend from his insanity. Restraining order? Those are a joke. If Mel Gibson has an ounce of intelligence and has but a few sober minutes in any given day, wouldn't you think he would seek medical attn. for his mental problems? His idea of fixing things is punching her? threatening to kill her? Something is very, very wrong and unfixable in his head.

Mel needs a good woman like me. I would spoil him rotten. I would have to get him some serious help regarding his hatred of others. Deep down I dont think he hates people. He has interacted with numerous races and it is really hard to believe his is that way. I think he is going thru some type of depression and maybe he is in deep regret over leaving his wife for this bimbo. It is clear on the tape she left some stuff off and provoked him to go off. She aint worth it Mel. Go back to your wife.

Mel Gibson obviously has problems that go beyond this latest rant. He has reportedly been dropped by the Williams Morris Agency and was arrested in 2006 for DUI. He needs a lot of help.
I don't defend antisemtism, anti-African American, or Anti-Latino, nor do I defend violence against women but that being said, he needs detox, counseling, anger management counseling and maybe medications for depression.
I'm never been a big fan, don't own even one of his movies but he does have 8 kids, some of whom still need support.
Instead of kicking him when he's down, let's realize that he is a very flawed human being who appears to desparately need help and prayer.
As for this woman-he was never married to her- the fact she taped him indicates to me, she may have baited him, knowing he was going to act this way. She has betrayed and exploited him. Certainly she could've gone to a shelter or the police if she was battered and not taped him and sent it to the media.
I don't think much of her. He left his wife of 29 years for this person. She has a kid by him, so she's guaranteed some money. I think he will be better off without her and vice versa.
Let's try to separate his work life from his home life. He was a good actor but right now, he's a man who is deeply troubled.
Let's keep him and his kids and this woman in our prayers. It's a really messed up situation. Let's hope it doesn't have a tragic ending.

"A tragic ending"? Unfortunately, yes, that is a very distinct possibility. After hearing both tapes, I know where his head, and heart, are at. And it's scarey! Right now, he's so hurt, and mad, that he's ready to do something stupid - something he will regret later. Obviously, she meant a lot to him, or he wouldn't be this crazy. I wouldn't be surprised, the state of mind he's in, if 1 or both of them were found dead soon! He needs help - IMMEDIATELY!!

I can't believe people are defending this guy. He is mentally sick and a bigot to boot and people are looking for reasons to defend his behavior. Enough already, the guy should be held accountable for what he says. I only hope he never works in the movies again. There is no excuse for the hate, and even if he were drunk, the inhibitions came down, so this is what he really feels and thinks. Open your eyes people.

I have always been a fan of Mel Gibson, way back when I first saw him in "Tim". He is sick and needs help, he helped Britney Spears when she was at her lowest, which I admire but it's too bad he isn't looking in the mirror at his self destruction. Hope he gets help before it's too late!
