Mel Gibson's Friends Turn Their Backs on Him

With more Mel Gibson tapes set to be exposed, friends who once defended the troubled 'Edge of Darkness' actor are now running for cover. "Mel is in a very dark place," one insider tells me.

"None of his friends, even those who have defended him in the past, want anything to do with him publicly or privately."

Back in 2006, when Gibson's anti-Semitic rant was exposed, several Hollywood big wigs, including 'The Patriot' producer Dean Devlin and actress Jodie Foster, stood by his side.

"Is he an anti-Semite?" Foster asked. "Absolutely not. But it's no secret that he has always fought a terrible battle with alcoholism."

It was widely believed that Gibson has been sober since the early '90s, although people close to him say he has been on and off the wagon for years. "I have been with Mel when he has fallen off, and he becomes a completely different person," producer Devlin said back in 2006.

Now those close to Mel worry it has happened once again. Mel knows his career is over with the release of this tape and is hoping he can still save his legacy. Ten to fifteen years from now, he wants to be remembered as a great actor and father, not the man of those tapes. But I fear that ship has sailed already, Mel.

I pray Mel will give his heart to the greatest Jew there is, Jesus Christ, who is the ONLY one who can change his heart and give him peace beyond human understanding. I hate Mel's actions, but I do not hate him. I am sorry for him and will pray for him and that's what Jessie Jackson and other ministers should be doing. What a great witness to a dying world that would be. Sadly, the so called ministers of late are NOT doing the Lord's work. They need to refresh themselves with the Word of God (Old and New Testaments). Mel, if you happen to read this, Jesus really loves you. It's not a phrase, it's the truth. The church you built is just a building, let Jesus into your heart and He promises to give you a new heart and a new life, and that's the WORD of GOD!!!

As far as "support" for Mel's children with Robyn, I doubt they have anything to worry about, she's smart enough to have gotten a very large settlement in the divorce. Wbich she earned! Seven kids and he doesn't believe in birth control. Standing by him when he acted like a lunatic (all the times).

And he says she's not going to heaven because she's not a Catholic! She's going to get a crown in heaven. Not so sure about Mel Gibson, super catholic--he belongs to a conservative sect and is not recognized by the Vatican.

Your facts are wrong, the Pope did receive him in a private audience. He does not belong to a sect but to a charismatic branch of catholicism.

The thing I found most impressive in "Lethal Weapon" (the only movie of his I have seen) was how well he was able to protray a person who was insane. Now, it seems that he was not really acting, that it was just him playing himself. As for all these tapes, I am inclined to believe that that is all a manufactured setup by this golddigger, which doesn;t make him any more sane.

I love MEL GIBSON, his girlfriend deliberately taped those arguments..KNOWING FULL well WHAT SHE WAS GOING TO DO WITH THEM..SURE she was calm and collected..but nobody knows what she did to him to PUSH him into this.. I think there is 2 sides to this story and everyone is waiting for the whole big picture. This gal has a past with stars of trying to get what she wants till they leave and want nothing to do with her. This is not her 1st child with a star, the other thing we should look at is his past history with his 1st wife, He never hit her...

true, no pix of the teeth knocked out. I do believe the man is violent and cruel and no one deserves to be hit or tormented or threatened. but she did break up his marriage. and for that I think she should crawl back under the rock she emerged from.

Sounds like she is just another smart hooker, like the one's that Tiger ran with, looking for the right timing to extort money. So what if he is a racist, etc. it is his opinion. He did not kill anyone while he was drunk just pissed off at our phony double standard society that encourages women to behave like this instead of taking care of the kids...i.e. 50% divorce rate and now 40% kids that are born into single parent families.

To All, Mel, has hit a ROCK BOTTOM here and you should all realize this is alcohol at work, he is an addict addicted to alcohol, and once he takes the first drink he has no defense against the other, and that my friends is what has turned him into the monster he is now. It would NOT surprise me if he loses everything and ends up in jail to really hit bottom, he has 4- choices in life just like any other alcoholic does 1. DIE 2. Mental Institutions 3. Jail 4. I am a daughter of an alcoholic. Mr. Gibson is an alcoholic. Can his career be okay? Yes BUT, Mel has to admit he is powerless over alcohol. He MUST get himself into treatment. He has to have people around him that don't enable him to drink. The friends are going to have to put up with alot of mental abuse because Mel is going to turn on the charm one day and put you thru hell the next. Drunks are charming liars. They love to shock people.
Is Mel anti-semite>? No because Mel says he is Catholic. Who is the all knowing-allseeing-all forgiving God Mel believes in? Jesus! What was Jesus earthly home? Isreal. Who hung on the cross and died for our sins? Jesus and Jesus was a Jew. So is Mel an anti-semite? No but is he a drunk? Yes. Does he need help? Yes. Do not enable him in his bad behavior and stinking thinking. Mel is his own worst enemy. Get some help Mel. For your own sake.

Very sad to see and learn the real Mel. I always enjoyed his movies, especially the Lethal Weapon ones. What a very insecure and lost man he is. Watching news clips of him walking the red carpet, his facial expressions, this is someone who is trying so hard to mask himself to the world and saying so much "look at me, look at me." Wonder if this type of behavior happened with Robyn. I feel sorry for his children, to have lived it and seen what their dad really is. He obviously has a very strong love/hate relationship with himself.

To be a true friend IS TO NOT PUT UP with this kind of insane, egotistic, chauvenistic behaviour. Whether she is a gold-digger or not is irrelevant. There is never an excuse for spousal abuse. His career was washed up after the first anti-semitic rant. Now, this. Who needs this guy! I say boycott his films. Maybe if everyone turns their back on him, he will finally get it! On the tapes Mel said he needed a good woman. Guess there hard to find. I have never been married and I use protection, always. Guys don't mess with any thing thats broke. :) We don't know if this russian woman called him 5 min earlier and told him to F off. "No one gets that mad without a good reason". Mel, go easy your going to have a heart attack. I've seen to many good men go down because of a bad woman. They will drive you to your grave.

You know.. I am not going to defend Mel .. but we do NOT have all the facts.. I for one do NOT go around taping conversations with my loved ones.. That is a HUGE RED FLAG for me. Mel may be guilty but her credibility went out the window.. Sorry.
