Charges filed against '30 Rock' actor Rip Torn stemming from a January burglary bust have been dropped, RadarOnline reports. The 79-year-old actor has made a name for himself in Hollywood over the course of his 54-year career with roles in a number of hit films, including the 'Men in Black' series.Torn was arrested on January 29 in Salisbury, CT, after allegedly breaking into a Lichfield Bancorp building while drunk and carrying a loaded weapon.
Torn's attorney, A. Thomas Waterfall, has petitioned for the actor to undergo accelerated rehabilitation, consisting of alcohol education classes. Under the conditions of this program, charges against Torn, a first-time offender, could be dropped following a probation period.

Bank burglary sounds pretty serious to me, he should be charged and put in jail. Once again because of his Hollywood status he will be given a slap on the wrist. He isn't even a good actor he's a drunk always has been surprised he has a liver left.

For what it's worth, when he was young and sober he was already insane. He tried to kill Norman Mailer with a ball-pean hammer.
This was most certainly not his first offence. He just manages to buy his way out and it looks like he's doing it again.
He got away with it because he is a first time offender.The judge realized this was out of his character.If someone intends to rob a bank,you dont do it in the middle of the night unless you are after deposit slips or pens on chains.The old coot was probably drunk out of his mind.You make him pay for damages,a stiff fine,go to rehab.Its level justice for a 79 year old first time offender.
Oh, I would love to be an star (regardless if I'm good or not!). I could do anything I wanted and not go to jail, and in a lot of cases, not even fined. I could literally ransankle motel/hotel rooms and not have to pay for the damages, not one lousy red cent! Of course being handsome/pretty with a damn sexy body would help considerably. But, alas. I'm no star, I'm not handsome nor have a sexy body..looks like "poor moi!"

Some of you people are so dumb it hurts. He wasn't trying to break into a bank. He was SO wasted he thought the bank was his house and was trying to let himself in (the bank and his house do look a bit alike). The only thing he's guilty of is being a drunken, old fool.

The "liberal Hollyweird" judge was a conservative Fairfield County judge who is used to rich people doing dumb things. It's not the fame that kept him out of jail, it's the money.

This is someone out of control. It sounds as if rehab is the consequence of choice. That is what would happen to the average person and it wouldn't make the news. Sad to see people fall so low.
