U2 frontman Bono has announced he's fully recovered from emergency back surgery he had in May. In a hand-held video posted on U2's website, Bono apologizes to fans who now must wait an extra year to see the band return to action but promises it will be worth the wait.
"I can sit. I can stand. I can move around a bit. Feeling strong, feeling confident," Bono says as he walks around the recording studio. "And I'm ready -- rebuilt by German engineering, better design I'm told -- and I'm going to be fighting fit next summer in the U.S."
In may, Bono underwent emergency back surgery after suffering an injury during the band's rehearsals for an upcoming world tour. According to his spokesperson, Bono was treated for an "injury sustained during tour preparation training." No detail was given as to what his injury was.
"Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates," the spokesperson said.
U2 was scheduled to play several U.S. dates during the months of June and July -- kicking off with a show in Salt Lake City on June 3 -- and then making the jump overseas in August.
I have tickets to three shows and can't wait till next year. I hope he continues to do well. They're an amazing group of guys! It was so very nice for him to apologise, though it certainly wasn't called for.
i am so glad that all is well, we had tickets for the june 30....my 12yr. LOVES U2, and after she she had a seizure, ...well i just knew how important this concert would be. Our concert had to be rescheduled, but just as well,,,it will be well worth the wait.
