Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem Marry in Bahamas

Two of Spain's brightest film stars have wed -- Penelope Cruz, 36, and Javier Bardem, 41, tied the knot in the Bahamas earlier this month, the couple's rep confirms to PEOPLE.

The couple, who starred together in Woody Allen's 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona,' have "always kept their romance under the radar -- and their intimate wedding was equally low-profile," the magazine reports. They married for a small audience of family members at a friend's island home.

Cruz's gown was by close friend John Galliano.

The two met on the set of the Spanish film 'Jamon, Jamon' in 1992. Though they never officially commented on being engaged, Cruz once referred to Bardem as, "a friend and the best actor in the world."

Cruz won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress in 2008 for her turn as loca María Elena in 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona.' The year prior, her now-husband notched a Best Supporting Actor win for his portrayal of über-villain Anton Chigurh in the Coen brothers' 'No Country For Old Men.'

Damn that woman! How dare she steal the love of my life away like that! I'm not one who's ever been all that attracted to latin men, but Javier (take my breath away) Bardem, I start to salivate just saying his name. Saying his name is like saying "Calgon take me away". Actually, I'm happy for Penelope (Damnit!), I hope it's a marriage that will last. They both looked sexy as hell in 'Vicky, Christina, Barcelona'. The 1st time I saw Javier was watching the 2001 Academy Awards & I thought OMG!! Who is that?? Of course I had to go out & watch 'Before Night Falls' right away. It's a happy-sadness that Javier is off the market now.
