Mel Gibson Keeps Filming After Rants, In 'Complete Shock'

Despite all the talk of Mel Gibson's career being over after vicious audio rants against then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva leaked recently, it's been barely noted that the 54-year-old actor still has a movie in post-production and another that's reportedly filming, according to IMDb.

The feature in post-production, Jodie Foster-directed 'The Beaver,' actually went to reshoots after Mel Gibson's thunderous audio rants began leaking, the New York Post reports.

"Mel was in complete shock," an inside source tells the newspaper, who calls Foster a friend of Gibson's. "Everyone was walking on eggshells around him. It was the weirdest set ever."

If the rampant speculation that the controversy will be a career-ender for Gibson is correct, these films in progress could be his last.

"Can his career as a movie star, which was already in mid-slide, recover? It's seriously doubtful. Apart from the sheer shameful stigma of it all (how many people are there left who will now work with him? produce his movies? distribute them? go to see them?), who could Mel Gibson now conceivably portray in a movie?" wrote Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly. "If he tries to play someone smiley and nice, it would look like a bad joke. But if he takes on the role of someone brutish and mean, a walking-tall cauldron of righteous payback -- in other words, a typical Mel Gibson character -- it will put the scandal of his domestic explosion front and center all over again."

Career concerns may not be all for Gibson -- many of his friends are reportedly finished with him in the wake of the scandal. "Mel is in a very dark place. None of his friends, even those who have defended him in the past, want anything to do with him publicly or privately," an insider told PopEater's Rob Shuter.

Riiighht.... married all those years, had all those kids.. and never a peep about anything wrong. Nobody's written a book about him.. never heard about problems with the kids.. or maybe things were just fine??

To Sandra - And maybe the abuse was so traumatic, and the threats ("what happens in this house STAYS in this house!!!) so violent that they are still too scared to talk about it. Been there, done that. My EX is dead. I know - I called the hospital to MAKE SURE!!! Otherwise I wouldn't be sharing this.

Ever think "Gold-digger" and "set-up"??? Knowing his temperment when he drinks, having a drink ready when he gets home, starting an argument so you could record it with the device you already have in place, and thinking one or two things - "I'll either take his money to keep quiet" or "I'll ruin his already shaky career." She's no innocent here. She may have even planned the pregnancy to get to his money. My point is this - WE DON'T KNOW any answers and truly it is NONE OF OUR BUSINESS! If Mel makes a movie that sounds good to me, I'll see it. He has to live with his own demons.
What I would love to see is he and his first wife get back together so she can pull him back into a good life. DON'T GET ME WRONG - I HATE WHAT HE SAID and there is really no excuse (even drinking, well especially blaming that)for it. But we would just have a fit if we knew all the true personalities of our 'greatest stars'. People, they are just like us - HUMAN and they do incredibley stupid stuff - just like us. Look in the mirror and then throw your stones.

What Mel needs is anger management therapy and to date someone his own age for crying out loud. The women like Oksana who are younger and beautiful are only after fame and fortune with these older, rich men in show business. And to have a baby by them so they can collect child support and whatever else they can get out of them. While I don't agree that Mel should have gone off the deep end with the ranting and raving, I think he is deeply hurt by this relationship and realized she was just another fortune hunter and did not really love him. But a man should never hit a woman no matter what. That's where he crossed the line. Mel - get a grip. Surely there are religious women where you are that are more your age that are not superficial. Don't think with your peni - think with your brain! And I do think Mel is bipolar and does need medication. I still like him though and would see a movie of his again.

I agree 100%. He is bi-polar and I believe she pushed his buttons. Why else would she have a tape recorder ready for when he yells at her. He should NEVER have hit her though. He also should never have cheated on his first wife and had a baby out of wedlock with this gold digging woman. I don't think the Catholic faith is smiling down on him right now.

I agree. Why is it that "he" is the bad guy? No one but the two of knows what transpired to evoke this reaction. You nothice that there just "happens" to be a tape rrecorder at hand when needed. Did he "hit" her, again no one knows but them what happened. Is it any of my business, NO, and why, if not for gaining money would someone "leak" (?) something like. Her voice isn't on the recording.
I applaud Whoopie Goldberg and her statements on THE VIEW. And she is right, while I don't condone what he did, (he really should know better then to blow up like this), I UNDERSTAND. I think like all of us, enough was enough and something happened that was the last straw. WE have no idea what she was doing, "pushing his buttons" getting on his last nerve.
I still Love the guy, and would see the next movie. And people, he doesn't need producers , directors, or whatever else...he has the money and the talent to do all of this himself. I am a bit torn on Oksana. I think she really is after money and fame, and she is a serial celebrity dater. So, I think money was her primary motive for dating Mel and sticking with him as long as she has. To knowingly date a married man says a lot about your character and level of self-respect.

At the same time, if Oksana chose to tape Mel's rants, it was only because she experienced them many times during their relationship. She experienced being punched, and she wanted to make sure there was concrete proof that he did these things to her. Her motives were probably not all pure, but she knew that if she went to the media without these tapes, nobody would ever believe that one of the world's most famous men was abusive. Without these tapes, she would've been accused of making up stories and being a gold-digger. With these tapes, people don't doubt the stories are true but still think she's a gold-digger.

Mel needs serious help, and I don't think he'll be able to get his career back anytime soon. I personally think he's fallen off the wagon bigtime, and that explains some of his behaviors. He just seems like a mean drunk, and he doesn't look sober in any of his recent photographs. I don't wish living with an abusive drunk on any person, even somebody who is after money and fame like Oksana.

I agree. Something sent him over the edge. Barely making noise the last 30 years, yet in the last 8 since his break up with his ex-wife, he has certainly got lost somewhere. As I too do NOT condone his actions and no man should hit a woman, but it does sound like she did something to provoke him in order to get him on tape. He need some serious therapy, medication, and anger management. Not too mention detox, if he is still drinking.

I agree about Mel needing anger management, about his being a bit over the deep end, but.... he loves his daughter. The money-grabbing model types are not good picks for the aging, rich actor types. Too sad for the innocent children involved in the adult's messes.

I agree with you. When people are frustrated, they do say things that they don't mean. I am totally against the fact that he hit her and can understand her fear. But if I were in her place, if my first concern was my safety, I would have taken the tape to the police as oppose to the media. I think her motive was and is money and she is still a money hungry woman. We don't know what was exchanged earlier to the taped call, so we dont know if anything was said on her part. I for one, would never have stayed quiet on the phone if a man was talking to me like that, I would be giving it back or just hang up the phone unless I had another motive. I would still see his movies.
