Mel Gibson Keeps Filming After Rants, In 'Complete Shock'

Despite all the talk of Mel Gibson's career being over after vicious audio rants against then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva leaked recently, it's been barely noted that the 54-year-old actor still has a movie in post-production and another that's reportedly filming, according to IMDb.

The feature in post-production, Jodie Foster-directed 'The Beaver,' actually went to reshoots after Mel Gibson's thunderous audio rants began leaking, the New York Post reports.

"Mel was in complete shock," an inside source tells the newspaper, who calls Foster a friend of Gibson's. "Everyone was walking on eggshells around him. It was the weirdest set ever."

If the rampant speculation that the controversy will be a career-ender for Gibson is correct, these films in progress could be his last.

"Can his career as a movie star, which was already in mid-slide, recover? It's seriously doubtful. Apart from the sheer shameful stigma of it all (how many people are there left who will now work with him? produce his movies? distribute them? go to see them?), who could Mel Gibson now conceivably portray in a movie?" wrote Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly. "If he tries to play someone smiley and nice, it would look like a bad joke. But if he takes on the role of someone brutish and mean, a walking-tall cauldron of righteous payback -- in other words, a typical Mel Gibson character -- it will put the scandal of his domestic explosion front and center all over again."

Career concerns may not be all for Gibson -- many of his friends are reportedly finished with him in the wake of the scandal. "Mel is in a very dark place. None of his friends, even those who have defended him in the past, want anything to do with him publicly or privately," an insider told PopEater's Rob Shuter.

you dont know the whole story. She is not that young. She is 40 years old, not 20 and it takes two to have a baby. He could have used a condom. He obviously did not mind getting her pregnant. We don't know if all those years that he was married if he was THIS WAY with his wife and kids and they siffered in silence because he threatened them the way he threatens Oksana here. I am glad she taped him. For her sake and also for him, maybe he will get help.

I agree with you Tess, it all seems very strange that all these recordings have been leaked and she seems very calm. I also heard from an ex-friend of hers that she's a gold digger and needs the career boost. Who else could do that but Mel and when he found out, he got mad.. I don't blame him but, like everyone has said, he shouldn't have hit her. Why did she record all these conversations with him and why have they been leaked. She seems vicious to me and I wouldn't mess with her.

I would not walk around the corner to see anything he is in. This is not the first time he got in trouble with his rage. Don't forget everyone that he left a wife of many years for this bimbo and now he is having a problem. The girl knew he was married so she is no better. I feel very sorry for this child.

Mel's only buttons to push were his requirements to be "blown". If they were not met - he exploded in a vicious rage.
Oksana wanted fame and money - Mel wanted a trophy girlfriend 23 years younger than he.
Mel's recordings show what he is capable of - I don't blame Oksana for doing what she had to do to save her life.
So what if she was a gold digger? She doesn't deserve being punched in the face - especially after having a baby. I hope Mel goes to jail for what he did - otherwise he will strike again.

I haven't watched a Mel Gibson movie in years and I never will again. The man's a slug.

Cheating certainly didn't hurt the career of Brad Pitt or any number of other stars. I haven't heard of anyone dropping out of the movies Mel's involved with since the tapes came out - so much for never working with him. Most people that say that would never have had the chance to work with him anyway.
If Mel is bipolar (which he claimed in an interview before he even had his DUI) and this is a manic episode, he doesn't deserve the dumping on that he's getting. It's a form of mental illness and deserves some understanding.

I am so sick of when "people of interest" get into trouble, every single one of them say they're bipolar. My husband is bipolar and he would NEVER act like this. I don't care if Gibson is bipolar or not, I think he is a narcissistic lunatic. We all make choices and to me, all the young woman was trying to do was "prove" that his is abusive. He underestimated her. Whether or not she is a "gold digger" is beside the point. He found that he wasn't going to control her. He should face charges for this, and not those that "celebrities" face (a slap on the wrist), but those that WE would face if we were in the same situation that he finds himself in!
