Mel Gibson Keeps Filming After Rants, In 'Complete Shock'

Despite all the talk of Mel Gibson's career being over after vicious audio rants against then-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva leaked recently, it's been barely noted that the 54-year-old actor still has a movie in post-production and another that's reportedly filming, according to IMDb.

The feature in post-production, Jodie Foster-directed 'The Beaver,' actually went to reshoots after Mel Gibson's thunderous audio rants began leaking, the New York Post reports.

"Mel was in complete shock," an inside source tells the newspaper, who calls Foster a friend of Gibson's. "Everyone was walking on eggshells around him. It was the weirdest set ever."

If the rampant speculation that the controversy will be a career-ender for Gibson is correct, these films in progress could be his last.

"Can his career as a movie star, which was already in mid-slide, recover? It's seriously doubtful. Apart from the sheer shameful stigma of it all (how many people are there left who will now work with him? produce his movies? distribute them? go to see them?), who could Mel Gibson now conceivably portray in a movie?" wrote Owen Gleiberman at Entertainment Weekly. "If he tries to play someone smiley and nice, it would look like a bad joke. But if he takes on the role of someone brutish and mean, a walking-tall cauldron of righteous payback -- in other words, a typical Mel Gibson character -- it will put the scandal of his domestic explosion front and center all over again."

Career concerns may not be all for Gibson -- many of his friends are reportedly finished with him in the wake of the scandal. "Mel is in a very dark place. None of his friends, even those who have defended him in the past, want anything to do with him publicly or privately," an insider told PopEater's Rob Shuter.

How lucky you are that your husband is only mildly bipolar. May he never get any worse. Unfortunately there are many worse off than he.

Actually my father was bipolar. This rant sounds EXACTLY like him when he was having an episode. The mildest transgression would send him off because in his mind it was blown way out of proportion and very real. My mom stated married to him for 36 years with no one outside our family knowing that my father constantly threatened to kill us, himself, and was violent. It ended with his suicide when we were grown and my mother could finally leave him.

Furthermore, I am still amazed that since you live with a "bipolar" that you don't know the symptoms of the disease. I know the hell he goes through in a "manic" and "depressive" cycle... if your husband does not know what this is... he is NOT bipolar!

I had a friend that was Bipolar, She was a raging maniac just like Mel. I took her to the doctors to get help... As long as she took her meds she was alright.

There is more wrong with Mel than being Bipolar; he is allergic to alcohol as well. Bipolar's can NOT drink at all. He also has a problem with respect for others...

He deserves to do some time for what he did to her... He needs to be on his meds and have therapy to get over this desire to be blown all the time...SICK!

"Fed up with this crap," this is to you specifically. I have lived with him for 17 years. He was diagnosed over 20 years ago. The difference is that my husband takes care of himself by exercising and eating correctly, takes his medicines as he should, keeps appointments with his doctors, and stays away from any harmful substances (alcohol, for instance). I personally see that Mr. Gibson's raging alcoholism is a factor in this. If YOU knew anything about bipolar disorder, you would know that that makes a lot of difference with the manic/depressive episodes or lack there of. So, don't tell me that I don't know bipolar. I live it every day of my life. The difference between my husband and Mr. Gibson is that my husband is pro-active with his care!

It's really sad..... He use to be one of my favorite actors. I hope someone will help him by putting him in a hospital before it's too late. Yes, he is great for headlines right now, but someone will pay a steep price just to give all of us something to read, and gossip about today. My prayers are with the entire family and friends. God be with all of you.

Please Mel Gibson will withstand this. I can imagine that Oksana has done quite a bit to get the situation just the way it pays the most for her. Mel's biggest transgression is falling into one trap after another. Foolish, but not career ending by any means

Nobody knows what goes on behind closed doors. Obviously they didn't get along but I'd say there is alot we don't know about her as well. Yeah he shouldn't have said the things he did but when your angry you almost always say things you shouldn't. I think his anger gets the best of him and he just rants. What he does and says at these times is childish, stupid and irresponsible but I don't think hes necessairly a racist. And I agree with Whoopi she should have a pretty good opinion of that. At least she knows him personally. Most of us know him as an actor. And thats what I enjoy about him. I like his movies and would definetly see another one. I just hope he learns how to deal with his anger issues.

I'm absolutely NOT defending Mel or anything he has said or done, but is Hollywood a pack of two-faced hypocrites or what? Alec Baldwin also went ballistic about his ex on the phone and yelled obscenities at his own child, and he's still churning out the films. As far as I know, no one has questioned whether his career is over. The film industry is only too willing to look the other way when the person involved is in their camp, either "politically" or "religiously".

I am so sorry this has happened to him, I think she knew how to push his buttons and she did it very well . He definitely needs to seek treatment. However I hope people don't turn their back on him. He needs good support of friends and family right now to see him through this. Not to be shunned . He needs prayers . He is a man of faith and he is struggling with Demons that many have no clue the pain he is in. You could hear the pain and torture in his voice in those audio tapes. I didn't feel anger towards him I felt sorrow I wanted to reach out to him. I felt anger towards her. I heard she was holding that precious baby, if that is true shame on her.

It's so easy to be self righteous..but "cleanup your own backyard"before you judge Mel..Nobody really knows what was going on between them..I like his movies and hope he keeps making them..And to those fair weather friends of his..Who needs 'em..Hang in there Mel.

There is always two sides to a story. I believe she knew exactly what she was doing. She set him up with her caniving and making him jealous she was pushing all the right buttons then grabbed her recorder,she is a money grubber. She pushed him over the edge, she is luckky she is alive. To bad he left his wife for her.

I think Oksana is a gold digger, but I don't feel sorry for Mel. He left his wife for her so he deserves whatever he gets. He's obviously mentally disturbed, should really get some help.
