What Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston Can Learn From Other Reality TV Couples

Pop-Ed: Bristol Palin and Levi Johnston are making headlines again. First came the shocker that they got engaged a couple of weeks ago, although their parents, including Bristol's famous mom Sarah Palin, don't approve. Then came the news that they're shopping a reality show around.

I like to think there's hope in everything, but let's face it, this situation seems doomed. It's hard enough for a young couple with a small child to make it, but throw in the conflict with their parents and the fact that reality couples rarely ever survive -- and their prospects for happily-ever-after seem slim. But let's stay positive here and take a look at what Bristol and Levi can learn from other reality couples.

Jon and Kate Gosselin. Don't battle it out in the public eye. Before you utter a word, think about how your public fights in tabloids and TV shows will impact your sweet, innocent child. Even if little Tripp doesn't understand what's going on now, he'll be living down your reputation for the rest of his life. Do you really want to saddle him with that?

Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag. Think before you leap into marriage. With Spencer's nasty Twitter reputation and generally clueless behavior, it's no wonder this infamous couple from 'The Hills' is currently in splitsville. Not only that, but he now claims he's homeless! Well, if you call booking a room at the Roosevelt Hotel homeless. At any rate, it probably would have saved Heidi a whole heap of heartache if she'd thought twice about marrying Spencer.

Jake Pavelka and Vienna Girardi. Don't look for love on TV. Or in Bristol and Levi's case, don't try to have a successful marriage on TV. We could throw just about every couple who's appeared on 'The Bachelor' or 'The Bachelorette' in here. These relationships are doomed from the start, given the fact that most probably aren't looking for true love. They're looking for their 15 minutes of fame.

Kendra and Hank Baskett. Be respectful and caring. Things have been dicey for this couple since the release of Kendra's sex tape, but you can tell that Hank really cares for his bride, who also happens to be the ex-girlfriend of Playboy mogul, Hugh Hefner. In some ways, that's gotta be a tough act to follow, but Hank has taken on the task with grace and love.

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne. Soldier through the tough times. Married since 1982, this couple has weathered through the rock-and-roll lifestyle, Sharon's successful battle with colon cancer and their own reality show, 'The Osbournes.' You might think they'd be the first couple to call it quits; instead, they're a shining example of how to keep persevering through the ups and downs of life.

Rev. Run and Justine Jones. Keep the faith and keep it real. Joseph "Rev. Run" Simmons is a minister and former rapper in the group Run-DMC, but he's not letting the insanity of Hollywood invade their lives. Most of all, he's a great husband and dad who works hard to give his family a normal life, as we've seen on his MTV reality show, 'Run's House.'

These two hillbillies made their own bed (after they boinked in it) and will forever be spin-off fodder thanks to Bristol's mother being exposed for the phony she is back in 2008. It ends up being a case of unpreparedness...Bristol obviously wasn't prepared to have safe sex and her mother wasn't prepared to think.

Levi "tasted" the big world, had his experiences, he'll never settle for the daughter of the pig in lipstick.....he may have the best intentions wanting to be family, but he's not the type....and she allowed herself to make money of her "holier than thou" attitude, how can this work? What a joke. If their relationship has half a chance, this is the wrong this to do! They get married, do this stupid show, they'll be in court divorcing and fighting over the money and kid again. Personally, I think if you're not mature enough to tell your parents you're engaged, especially when they do play a big role in your life, you're not mature enough to be married.
I'm not a fan of the Palin family. In fact I cannot stand Sarah. I think she spits in the face of womens rights, I think she stands for everything America stands against. That being said, I sure hope she doesn't offer to pay for any of this wedding after her daughter slighted her the way she did.
