Mel Gibson's Next Bombshell: Rehab?

Mel Gibson has been keeping a very low profile since his shocking, racism-ridden tapes leaked online. So why hasn't he been talking? Sources tell me Gibson's team is looking into various rehab facilities, hoping the actor will consider checking himself in as early as Monday.

"There's no question about it. When someone is recorded issuing death threats and vulgarity to describe the mother of his child, he needs help," Keith Ablow, MD, Forensic Psychiatrist and Fox News Contributor tells me. "The man on those tapes is full of rage, psychologically disordered and dangerous. He needs immediate psychiatric intervention and comprehensive treatment for years to come."

Celebrities tend to retreat to "rehab," which is sometimes more like a luxury vacation, when they hit a massive bump and want to fade away for a while. But insiders tell me Gibson's camp is serious about him getting help. They're currently looking into a rehab with maxim security that is far away from Los Angeles.

Even if rehab is a heartfelt decision, some are already questioning why Gibson would check in. "Going to rehab lets you hit the restart button," one crisis management publicist tells me.

"If Mel is seen going to get help than he has a chance to start rebuilding his life. Tiger Woods did it. Jesse James did it, and now it seems like it's his turn. My only hope is that Mel is going because he's serious about getting treatment -- not just to help his image."

At this point , it is impossible to tell. But don't be surprised if Gibson decides to take some time away from Hollywood and detox his image in rehab.

Recording a converstion on the telephone without the other parties permission is illegal in California. Why isn't Mel's ex being arrested for illegal wiretapping?

Why did she wait 6 months to release these tapes? Sounds like she tried to extort more money from him. I think she is nothing more than an opportunist and he fell for it. Good luck Mel.

Rehab doesn't cure evil misogynistic bigotry.

How anyone can even remotely sympathize or relate to this man is beyond me. No matter what his ex (allegedly) has done it does not justify any of Mel Gibson's actions.

Mel definitely has issues. Sure, you can blame her for releasing them (which I'm not sure she did, attorneys and others had the tapes too) but that was HIM on the tape and he is a very angry man with mental issues. They way he was talking to her is unacceptable. He hit her and broke her teeth. TWICE. He is not well. He is a pompous, arrogant, j*rk who uses religion to validate his racist, sexist, anti-semitic thoughts and words. I used to love him as an actor and thought he was a great man too but this just proves that you don't know who actors REALLY are, that's why they're called actors.

What he said and done were wrong but I think this women sit him up knew which buttons to push with him and once he got started she recorded him..... She did this for the sole purpose of getting money from Mel. They say she did they same thing with her son's daddy Timothy Dalton just goes to show you what kind of women she is. But Mel go to rehab you still have fans that are behind you and want to see you get through this !!

For all of you that are blaming her, this is Mel's second racist tirade. Remember the anti-semitic bit a couple of years ago? This guy is disturbed, and has been riding on the top for so long, he thinks he can't be brought down. Yes, he needs treatment. Even if she is an extortionist, somebody that would SAY those things to a potential enemy needs their head examined. Literally.

When a person attempts extortion, yes that can infuriate someone.Perhaps you believe that in America a female can do anything and that political correctness, aka liberal insanity, will them. I agree with everything Mel has said and wish him the best.

Mel needs to pull himself together, propbaly does need to go to rehab...and mean it. What I don't recall being mentioned in the news is that CA as an all parties must about it law on making recordings. The ex needs to be charged with wiretapping, and tapes can't be used in court, and the media also needs to be brought up by their short hairs with lawsuits too, they know there wasn't permission for the recordings.

Look I am sure that Mel Gibson is no "angel". However, if someone hit me and knocked out my front teeth I would have them arrested... Why weren't the police called sounds very suspcious to me.

I am sick of people setting up celebs by taping their private conversations and dare I say possibly doctoring the tapes.

I hope that this settles down and that justice prevails I just feel bad for that little baby sounds like both parties are dysfunctional.
