It's fair to say that millions of folks are probably counting down the days until the July 29th premiere of MTV's 'Jersey Shore: Miami,' the long-awaited second season of America's favorite reality show turned cultural study. In the meantime, fans can whet their appetite with the bass-thumping 'Jersey Shore' soundtrack, featuring music by Enrique Iglesias, Pitbull and more.
PopEater recently spoke with the 'Jersey Shore' cast's resident DJ (and lone blow-out enthusiast), the lovable Pauly D. In anticipation of the soundtrack release, Pauly talked about what makes a song 'Jersey Shore' worthy, his (newly controversial) DJ career and gave us even more reasons to get excited about Season Two.
Have a look below, as well as two webisodes featuring Snooki, J-Woww and the rest of 'Jersey Shore' crew.
Did you and rest of the cast have a hand in picking the tracks for the 'Jersey Shore' soundtrack?
No. We didn't pick the tracks for the actual soundtrack, but my personal track is on there.
Do you think you'll ever put out your own album?
Oh, yeah, definitely. This was the first track that I did with a major record label, so now I want to do my own album.
So what does it take for a song to be 'Jersey Shore' approved?
It's gotta be non-stop fist pumpin' music. It's gotta be for us to dance to -- gotta be fast, upbeat. Gotta be fist pumpin' music, man!
Do you have a favorite track on the album?
My favorite song on the soundtrack, besides my own, would have to be Enrique Iglesias'.
When taping Season 2, what kind of music did the cast listen to when you were getting ready to go out?
We listened to a lot of LMFAO, David Guetta ... a lot of dance music to just get us pumped to go out while we were getting ready.
Are there any DJs in particular that you look up to?
Definitely Paul Oakenfold. I've been looking up to him my whole life and I've been dealing with him a lot lately. He's a real nice guy and he knows his stuff. I definitely have to go with him.
I saw that you were nominated for 'America's Best DJ.' How does it feel?
Oh my god, it's like the biggest thing that could ever happen to me, 'cause music's my passion. I've been DJ-ing my whole life. Just to be nominated, I'm happy enough with that, you know what I mean?
Have you gotten any feedback from the DJ community about it?
Yeah, I mean there's some. I get a lot of good feedback, a lot of bad feedback. Some people think that, "Oh, he's on TV, that's why he's on it." I don't think that's the case; I put in my dues. A lot of other DJs, they appreciate that. So like, on DJ Times right now, Skribble gave me a nice review 'cause he knows me from back home and I used to do six nights a week in Rhode Island. I think I deserve it.
The Situation recently released a song. Were you surprised to learn he had musical aspirations of his own? Was it something you two talked about?
No, it was a surprise to me [laughs].
Do you think you guys will ever work together musically?
Um, I don't think so. I think it's a one-time kind of thing for him. For me, it's my life.
How has your life as a DJ changed since the first season aired?
Oh, it's been crazy. I've been a local DJ from the Rhode Island area, Boston area, and now I'm branching out. I'm a resident DJ at Las Vegas clubs, I'm DJ-ing all over the world. It gave me a chance to be heard, show the world what I can do.
Season Two is about to start. Are you nervous about watching yourself in the new episodes?
No, I mean the first time I was a little nervous. I'm like. "Oh my god, what am I gonna look like? How are they gonna make me look?" But they made me look exactly how I was so I'm not worried about that anymore. I'm excited to see it, I'm excited for the soundtrack to come out July 20th.
Watch the Jersey Shore Webisode, 'House Vote 1'
Did you have any ritual for watching the episodes when they air?
Actually for the first episode, I had -- at one of the biggest clubs at Rhode Island -- a big premiere party. So I might do the same thing.
What was your favorite thing about Miami that the Jersey Shore doesn't have?
Miami is like ... the beaches are beautiful. The water is crystal clear. In Jersey, they're not that nice. The clubs stay open 'til 6 AM in Miami. Miami's like a party.
Who do you think will be the first of the crew to settle down?
I'm gonna have to say Ronnie because he's still back and forth with Sam, but he's a relationship type.
Would you say the cast members are a lot like your friends back home?
Definitely. When I first met them I was like, they could've been jerks or I could've not gotten along with them, but I ended up getting along with everybody. It's just like hanging out with my friends back home.
Do you ever miss your old life, before all this craziness?
Nah, I love it. Like I said, music's my passion. For me to be able to DJ all over the world, that's what I've always wanted to do. I mean, I miss my family; I travel a lot now. But other than that, I'm in love with life right now.
These blow-hards will end up pennyless! I've seen more talent floating in a toilet bowl. The only plus is at least these morons aren't clogging up the welfare-judicial system! DJ?? Album?? This clown thinks he the bomb. Well maybe a juicy and stinky butt-bomb but that's it!
Why do people have to hate all the time? If you can't accept people and their likes and differences, why use your energy to hate? I am happy for all the jersey shore kids,I think they all add to the show!! I love jersey shore can't wait for July 29th!!!!!
Jewelstal is right. These talentless hacks would be in store for an azz beating if they tried their krap in a real life setting (No MTV security guards). Snookie could further her career as a stand in for a Spaulding basketball in the movies. She obviously has the same height and shape. What kind of music does this bonehead mix? Happy-time with Elmo? Do'in Crack on Seseame Street? Sencond thought Jewelstal is an idiot!
They obviously have a talent for being entertaining because millions of people watch their show! I don't like everyone or everything on TV, but to each their own. There's no need for all the hate directed at these people who are just living their lives.
They are not even from Jersey in the first place. They are from NY!Snookie isn't even Italian. And now the show is set in Miami but its still Jersey Shore !!! Whine,Tan,Drink,Fight ! Whateva !
That's right its a New York, East-coast thing. People hate what they don't understand. Its a lifestyle we all grew up with people like this in New York. So instead of putting your " holier than thou" face on. Just go do a shot with them and get your party on.....
I think these people are f***ing hilarious, thats what makes the show so great, you hate it so much that you cant stop but watch it. I agree that they are all idiots, but thats what makes mtv money, finding idiots like this, so people can make fun of them and make fun of all the dumb s*** they do. It's just like the real world, and all of those people are dumb a**es too. So keep the show going, i want to keep on laughing at these waste of spaces
Sometimes I think what a bunch of whiners, other times they crack me up. I don't hate them. They saw an oppurtunity and went for an audition. The show was set on The Jersey Shore, no one said the cast was from there. They are doing what MTV wants them to do and that's who's paying their salary. It's alot of acting . I know I was silly and argumentative at that age. You grow out of it, even The Situation is still a young guy. Their having fun and the fights aired on T.V. are only shown for viewer satisfaction. Not seeing the whole story.
Are you kidding???-- The only people waiting to see this crap are a few hundred loosers who can't find there azzes with both hands. That bunch of Jersey homo's absolutly suck.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
