Gosselin Kids Aren't Being Exploited, Labor Dept. Says

The show will go on for 'Kate Plus 8' as Pennsylvania's labor department stands by its decision to issue work permits to Kate Gosselin's sextuplets for the TLC reality show. In a statement issued Tuesday, the department insists that the children are not being "unlawfully exploited" as they film with their mom and older twin sisters, Cara and Mady.

State Rep. Thomas Murt questioned the permits last week, saying Pennsylvania law allows children under 7 to work in movies, but not TV. Gosselin's sextuplets are 6 years old. Labor officials said Tuesday that the permits protect the children from working too many hours and ensure they receive earnings from the TLC show.

Murt maintains the permits are illegal. He says the labor department must seek a ruling from the attorney general.

Murt sent a series of letters to the state attorney general and labor secretary that questioned the legality of the work permits.

State labor officials previously said that TLC producers should have obtained work permits for the original 'Jon & Kate Plus 8,' though no penalties were made.

Of course the kids are not being exploited, Kate probably paid someone off to say that so she can keep using the kids to pad her bank account.

The money that is paid to the children goes into a trust for them for college, etc. Neither Kate nor Jon is allowed to spend it for themselves or on frivolous things. Jon is getting paid to stay away and Kate gets her own paycheck for being on the show.
I have seen this information in several different news articles about the where the money goes. None of us walk in her shoes. We have no right to critize. If you don't like her, don't watch the show and don't read all the gossip about her. Not a of one of us has attained perfection yet...right? :)

Kate is just trying to make sure these children have what they need in life. Did you see the first episode of Kate + 8? and how excited the kids were to see the crew back at their house? Her deadbeat ex husband Jon doesn't even have a job and I bet hasn't paid a dime of child support. How do you suggest that she make enough money to support that many children. I suppose you could do a better job? Have you ever had to support eight little kids on one salary? Did'nt think so. Before you start bashing Kate, walk one day in her shoes.

How you anyone say they are not being exploited? The only reason Kate has a show is because of the children. She is a loser who will do anything for money including exploiting her children. People need to stop watching so mabey they will finally take the shoe off the air and let the jids have a normal life and really make Kate have to work to provide for them. I for one have not and will not watch anything with Kate in it again.

GIVE ME A BREAK ERIN BROWER - WITH THEIR AUNT AND UNCLE????? I don't understand why everyone is ripping on Kate - the networks are full of reality shows that "exploit" their children and no one mentions them (i.e. 19 Kids and Counting, Little People Big World).
I, for one, don't think this is exploitation. Brooke Shields was exploited by her mother when she was a child model and star - the Gosselin kids are just living their lives and enjoying every minute with their film crew.

Their Father (and I use that term very loosely) does not even have a job. How would he support them? Besides, he is too busy chasing women to be bothered with his kids.

Granted the way she was protrayed in the series was not great, but in the end she is really trying to make a living for the good of her kids future. What has Jon contributed since they split? Seems like his focus was being someone who wanted to party, find a rich girlfriend and travel. Yes he may have see his children from time to time, but he is not bringing in the money like Kate is.... So please people put yourself in her shoes, she is doing what most people would do in that situation.

Kate you're doing a great job of supporting your children. Sounds like an awful lot of jealousy to me. She isn't doing anything illegal, the kids seem to love being on TV, bet they laugh and have more fun and go more places than any of the children of the posters on here. Jealous, jealous, jealous. Bet you all wish you could have done half of what these children have been able to do when you were a kid. She can afford to put them all in extra activities, keep a roof over their heads, food on the table, and most important each of these children will have the opportunity for a college education. Sounds to me like she's doing what parents are supposed to do only she has to do it be herself. Get over it people, if you don't like her then don't read the articles move on to something that will interest you and make you happy instead of reading the articles that make you angry. Life is short get over it people

I agree. Give the lady a break, the kids seem happy and well-adjusted. She's supporting them and not living off of welfare. Why are people so quick to judge her? As a foster parent for six years, I saw horrible situations of abuse against kids. Kate seems like a loving mom and with all the cameras, there is accountability in her life, to be a good mom, to take good care of her kids and to protect them.

How does one get this show and her to stop? I mean, if people quit watching the show, the ratings will of course drop... Then, they will hopefully cancel the show and HER... She will have to get a JOB and work...Oh my...
