Gosselin Kids Aren't Being Exploited, Labor Dept. Says

The show will go on for 'Kate Plus 8' as Pennsylvania's labor department stands by its decision to issue work permits to Kate Gosselin's sextuplets for the TLC reality show. In a statement issued Tuesday, the department insists that the children are not being "unlawfully exploited" as they film with their mom and older twin sisters, Cara and Mady.

State Rep. Thomas Murt questioned the permits last week, saying Pennsylvania law allows children under 7 to work in movies, but not TV. Gosselin's sextuplets are 6 years old. Labor officials said Tuesday that the permits protect the children from working too many hours and ensure they receive earnings from the TLC show.

Murt maintains the permits are illegal. He says the labor department must seek a ruling from the attorney general.

Murt sent a series of letters to the state attorney general and labor secretary that questioned the legality of the work permits.

State labor officials previously said that TLC producers should have obtained work permits for the original 'Jon & Kate Plus 8,' though no penalties were made.

Everyone's attention is ALWAYS on Kate,I NEVER hear anyone "GRIPING" about 20 Kid's and Counting or Table for 12,families.I'm not defending Kate,just it seems it's ALWAYS about her & she is a single mom now with a dead beat jobless,oversexed,womanizing,loser ex-husband for a so called father.

You idots are wanting to take the very thing that PROVIDES for all these kids AWAY from them. Her way of making a living. What is NORMAL to you...her NOT being able to provide and making the tax payers pay for them on welfare when she couldnt make enough to provide for 8 kids alone? Thats what would happen. But you would PREFER that because THEN she wouldnt have MORE than you..so it would be ok. You dont care about these kids..your jealous. Plan and simple. You people are stupid. A camera follows them around. So what! It is NOT hurting them. And they like it. Me thinks you are mostly jealous because SHE gets to do it and make ALOT OF MONEY..and YOU have to work to provide for your kids and cant afford HALF of what she can for HER kids. Unless your the NORM and are on welfare with all those children...
I dont even watch the show. Never have. But I have seen the accusations..and MOST are based in jealousy. No Facts. I can guarantee IF SHE WERE to abuse them they would SNATCH them in a heart beat. She KNOWS she under a microscope! She's OBVIOUSLY NOT STUPID now is she....

Leave them alone everyone needs a paycheck and the children if properly place there money in a trust fund they could have the opportunity to go college and buy themself house individually.

There are mothers working all over the country while their kids are pawned off on day care and baby sitters..so lay off Kate she has a right to work to support her family and those of you who think she is exploited her kids I guess you know more than the authorities eh? Get a LIFE!

I don't like Kate. She's a bossy wanna-be and it's her fault Jon stepped outside his marriage. She always made him seen stupid on the show. Now he's gone and the attention is focused on poor lil Kate. This show has been running for quite some time now. The kids are as cute as can be and I see no exploitation. Maybe it's time to end the show because I stopped watching after the fall out between her and Jon. Enough already!!

Please people get a grip. You are confusing the Kate who was a bad wife with the Kate who is and always has been a good mom to those eight kids. Those of you who have been around since the first season will remember that Kate worked nights when the six babies where infants. Kate may have been a lousy wife but she didnt sleep with the babysitter like that idiot John. She has been the one constant for those kids day in and day out. While John has gone from victim to unemployed village idiot who thinks he has a future in entertainment. Has he never heard of Spencer Pratt? Atleast Kate knows that the kids are the show...not her. You tell me a better way for a single mom to raise 8 kids and send them to college when they have a broke unemployed dad. Leave Kate alone and long live the show.

Have you seen the latest TV ratings? The show has lost 1/3 of it's audience in a month.... maybe there's hope for America yet. Reality TV show are not even real they are contrived and you bet your butt she's exploiting those kids! She's an egotistical fraud and a crappy mother! Oh and a dam lousy dancer who couldn't even get along with the people on that show ... show her the door grab the big hook and get this loser off TV!!

She got a taste of the rich life by filming her kids and she doesn't want to let go of that life No matter what it takes!!! She makes me ill Honestly I can't even look at her anymore and won't watch anything to do with her, Those poor kids!

they are not being used for a tv show they are being provided for by a tv show. and they aren't doing any sort of hard labor they are just being themselves(kids). i think the papparazzi are the ones that make things bad for them and exploit them and thier parents, by writing these dumb articles about them in the first place. afterall they arent famous actors and actresses. so why is the papparazzi following them anyway? when will the papparazzi be in court for exploiting? thats what i want to know. leave this family be for goodness sake. and if you dont like them dont watch them. its ratings that keeps them on the air duhhhhh

PA may state that it is legal for these kids to be pimped by their parents but it is morally wrong to expose them to this lifestyle. The Gosselins will do anything for a buck and three lines in the media.

Kate is exploiting the kids in the sense that she keeps them working to support HER lifestyle. She may not be breaking any laws but she's still using these poor kids for her personal gain. You can support 8 kids without putting them in front of a camera. :)

Kate still talks to these children like dogs...Sit down, sit on your hands, go stand over there, stop talking-now...kids are still not happy kids...she is not the perfect mother, I still think this is publicity for her... I hope she goes back to work, now that they are in school full time....kids need after school activities, other outlets than her....
