Sandra Bullock Joins Fight to 'Restore the Gulf'

Celebrities ranging from Sandra Bullock to John Goodman are urging fans to sign a petition demanding Congress deliver long-term funding to restore the Gulf Coast following the devastating BP oil spill.

"What can you offer?" Bullock asks in the PSA for Restore the Gulf. "Your voice. Speak up!"

Bullock is joined by a bevy of other stars, many of whom hail from Gulf Coast states. Dave Matthews, Harry Shearer, Blake Lively, Peyton Manning and Emeril Lagasse, among others, ask people to "Be the One" to take action to help fund the environmental recovery effort. Watch:

The project was started by Women of the Storm, a nonpartisan group that has spearheaded recovery efforts for past disasters, including hurricanes Katrina and Rita.

Organizers hope to collect one million signatures. As of Wednesday morning, they had just over 28,000.

tell all these pampered useless people to go back to their maids and cook's and nanny's. They are only here so they can get their faces on TV and names in the paper. I live on the gulf about 50 yards off the beach I was out there picking tar-balls, not a one of them have ever had to do anything that would get their hand's dirty....

I agree with you Paul. They don't do anything other then stand in front of a camera and try to push their opinions on others. I'm sick of actors thinking their jobs make them "all knowing". And I'm sick of the stupid people that follow them blindly!

Please understand, I want nothing more than to see the gulf cleaned up, but not at the expense of the American people. BP caused this mess and BP should be responsible to clean it up not the american people. If I understand this patition, you are asking the American people to sign this patition so our government can obligate our tax dollars for the clean vs going after PB for the full amount. If this patition is in favor of our government going after BP then I will sign it but I will not sign it if you are asking the American people to fund with our tax dollars.

BP isn't really going to pay for everything willingly. There's going to be a million lawsuits from our government and from the private sector. It will take decades to settle, just like the Valdez spill settlements did. The gulf doesn't have decades to wait. I say use our taxes now to clean the spill or keep living with a declining economy and ecosystem.
