Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Take Out a UK Tabloid

Note to the media: If you're going to publish a story claiming the demise of Brangelina, you'd better have rock-solid information. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie triumphed in British court Thursday after a notorious tabloid admitted they had published a story filled with "false and intrusive" allegations that the two were planning to split up.

The News of the World, a Sunday tabloid, published a story in January claiming the couple had visited a divorce lawyer and had reached an agreement about division of their assets as well as the custody of their six kids. The headline was "Pitts all over."

Pitt and Jolie, who aren't married, immediately brought legal action against the paper, arguing it had made false and misleading comments about them. The couple demanded a retraction of the sensational story but none was given.

Although the newspaper argued they acted in good faith, they never stood a chance against the power couple. Sorrell Trope, a divorce lawyer identified by many as the one the couple met with, denied even knowing them.

"When the News of the World failed to publicly retract the allegations and apologize for them -- thereby leaving their readers in the dark as to the true position -- the couple felt they had no alternative than to sue," the couple's attorney, Keith Schilling, said in a statement. "Today's victory marks the end of the litigation brought by Brad and Angelina."

The publication's owner, News Group Newspapers, has agreed to publish an apology and pay Pitt and Jolie a settlement, which they intend to donate to charity. They have declined to comment further.

The couple did not attend the hearing.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. This couple has lasted so much longer than anyone ever believed, I believe it is just a matter of time before they break up. They make me ill with all their love for one another. If they were sincere people they wouldn't have to put on such a show, Angelina-give it up.

I so agree with you. When you look at these photos it is all show. I am under the impression that it is time for Brad to go back to work. After all, when was the last time that he made a movie? He looked so disgusting with that beard that Hollywood probably did not even give him a second look. I wish, as well, that these two would go away. I get so sick of the phonyness.

Jolie severed Pitt's manhood and keeps it under lock and key, he is too afraid to escape from the clutches of that nut job,she'll be Mel Gibson-ess if he ever tried to run for it,the photos are all for show, there is no love or lust in that match up.

It's really pretty hilarious how sour some of you are about people you think you know something about (but really don't). Jealousy suits no one.

Also, @granny: When was the last time he made a movie? Um, how about last year with Inglourious Basterds? So because he hasn't put out anything in less than a year, his career is done? He's got kids, heaven forbid he take some time off to raise them.

I enjoy watching and reading good news about Brad and Angelina. I always liked Brad and think he's a pretty good guy. Angelina is beautiful and once a little wacky - but I think she's calmed down now and is a good mother. They're really living a dream life and people are so jealous - they just can't stand to see two beautiful people happy, with tons of money, and a lovely family. That's really at the bottom line of why people are always speculating and saying nasty things.

How is what they are doing..putting on a show...they are showing that they love each other the only difference they are in the public eye with it....how could love make someone ill unless they do not have any in their life.....do not bash them because of your own loneliness that is not a good thing...

I think the first Tab story about them breaking up happened in 2006 by now it is an endless stream and gets less believable as time goes on If they broke up in 20 yrs the tabs would say we told you so and Brad is running off to see you-know-who. Just leave them and their family alone.

The "News of the World" is at the same level as those scandal sheets sold at the check outs of most supermarkets. It is hardly worth wrapping fish and chips in! Britain has some very sleazy tabloids and it is good to see one hammered for producing speculative drivel about these two people. Like them or not, give them some privacy even if they are high exposure movie people.
