M. Night Shyamalan found himself having to defend his entire body of work to a reporter at a Mexican press conference for his latest film, 'The Last Airbender.'Even though 'Airbender' recently passed the $100 million mark at the US box office (making it his most successful outing in years) the reviews have certainly been horrific and, in many cases, aim to tear down Shyamalan as much as possible. One reviewer sums the director up as "once regarded as the most exciting talent in film, he now sits pretty as the laughing stock of Hollywood."
Now, a reporter tells Shyamalan to his face that he's lost it and is a sell-out.
His answer is particularly uncomfortable. ("I think if I thought like you I'd kill myself. Everything you said is the opposite of my instinct as an artist. The way you just thought, I literally would kill myself.") Also, watch as his right hand man on the panel begins to try a round of clapping that really doesn't take with the audience.

This guy is a horrible director/writer, and is a glaring example of the stupidity of Hollywood, which is almost as bad as the Government in wasting millions of dollars. Every film he makes gets worse and worse, yet idiots keep throwing money at this moron. He only had one decent film, and that was The Sixth Sense, and the only reason that did good box office was because of the trailer that featured "I see dead people". Unbreakable was unwatchable. Signs was average. The Village was just plain stupid. Disney dumped him after reading The Lady In The Water, yet some idiot from the stupid wagon stepped right up and gave him money to make that total piece of crap. He follwed that by The Happening, which should have been titled The Napping. But he thinks he is Gods gift to filmmaking... in his mind. And Hollywood can't figure out why box office is way down and why moviegoers greatly prefer independent films. This guy needs to meet up with Mel and both just disappear.

why condemn him. you always hear stars extol the works of kubrik, crowe, and scorcese yet they've turned out some of the most costly turds in film 'eyes wide shut' 'vanilla sky' and 'gangs of new york' to name critically acclaimed crap my toilet wouldn't swallow

"The Sixth Sense" is the only movie where I wanted to ask for my money back. Yawn from beginning to end. If it even had an end, or "twist" that wasn't a twist. "Lady in the Water" wasn't half bad. Loved "The Village" most of all and "Signs" was also excellent. Trashy reporter taking the direction that she did.

the sixth sense was very good, and the happening was original and well done. everything else is crap.

Great response from Mr. Shyamalan! The reporter's question was offensive and rude. Moreover, it served no purpose! What response was she hoping to get? Did she think he would say "You are 100% correct! I am a sellout!"???? She is a foolish girl, a shock-junkie. I enjoyed his movie. I don't generally watch this type of movie but I took my kids and they LOVED it. It is, after all, based on a children's cartoon series. The targeted audience, as far as I can tell, appreciated it. That makes Night Shyamalan an artist AND a smart business man. Plus, he appears to be a really decent guy. I wish him continued success!

I don't think he ever said he was the greatest director, or Steven Spielberg, but he IS a good director. All of his movies have a great twist that keep those who have an open mind entertained. I thought Airbender was a good film, and I don't have any young children, in fact I have watched a few episodes of the cartoon and find it to be quite funny. I hope he continues with the 2nd and 3rd installments of the film.

So, what he is saying is that to make good movies again he has to kill himself? I mean he would have to not think like himself to make good movies, and I bet any old reporter from Mexico could do better. So by that logic he does have to think like that guy.

Actually, unbreakable wasn't that good. anyway, john grisham was a NO-hit wonder (literary-wise) but he's apparently still successful. and M. Night is still better overall than over-rated messes like Field of Dreams and Deer Hunter.
