Brittany Murphy's Mother: Mold Not Linked to Daughter, Son-in-Law's Death

Rumors have spread that a toxic mold may have been partially to blame for the deaths of Brittany Murphy and her husband Simon Monjack, but Murphy's mom calls those reports 'absurd,' according to PEOPLE.

"I have never been personally asked by the coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mold," Sharon Murphy explained to PEOPLE.

"In the last eight months, I have been through the most unimaginable events, which no one could ever fathom. I have and will continue to be very cooperative and fully comply with any such request," she added.

"It's absurd that this kind of misinformation is being reported by the media," Sharon contuned.

"To the best of my knowledge, there has been no evidence of mold at the Murphy residence," Murphy's attorney said.

The 'Clueless' star and her husband both died of the same thing -- pneumonia and severe anemia. Murphy succumbed in December, while Monjack was found dead this past May.

OMG! That is the first thing I thought when I saw Simon died of the same thing.
Such a sad story. I really enjoyed Brittany's acting and sense of humor.

I believe there needs to be a thorough investigation into both deaths.When do two otherwise healthy young people die of pneumonia so close together? Something is very wrong here!

I was exposed to very bad mold in a house I was renting. I had pneumonia TWICE in 6 weeks and my dr. told me to get the house tested for mold. It was the worst report..I had to leave immediately. It took maybe 2 months of being out of the moldy house to be able to breathe normally. I can definitely see a person dying from the exposure. I was lucky..If there was in fact dangerous mold in their house....I believe the rumors...Because I almost died.

The only thing that contributed to their deaths was LOTS of drugs, both prescription and illegal.

There were no illegal drugs involved in Brittany's death. She was sick and she was taking LEGAL prescription and over the counter medication for pneumonia and her PMS. Get your facts straight.

Over-indulging in legal drugs doesn't make them any less dead.

Though she apparently didn't have illegal drugs in her system at the time of death, she did have a history of indulging. That type of hard partying will do permanent damage, even to the relatively young. She certainly had PLENTY of legal drugs in her system when she died. I guess that's better...

Why would her mother be so riled up about the notion that mold might have killed them? Would she rather that drugs had killed them. Something is just not right about her. It is as though she wants any investigation to stop. Hmmmm!

IT KILLS. TOXIC MOLD IS NOTHING TO LAUGH AT. IF THE MOLD IS IN YOUR HOUSE IT WILL EVENTUALLY KILL YOU.

Something is very suspicous about this. I bet that her Mom gets investigated. Maybe she could have poisioned them somehow? I'm sure there are certain types of poisions that do not show up in a toxicology test. My bet is on the Mother. It's just TOO coincidental.

There's nothing coincidental about two know drug abusers ending up dead at a young age. You've got to pay to play and the price is high.
