Brittany Murphy's Mother: Mold Not Linked to Daughter, Son-in-Law's Death

Rumors have spread that a toxic mold may have been partially to blame for the deaths of Brittany Murphy and her husband Simon Monjack, but Murphy's mom calls those reports 'absurd,' according to PEOPLE.

"I have never been personally asked by the coroner or anyone from the Health Department to come and inspect my home for mold," Sharon Murphy explained to PEOPLE.

"In the last eight months, I have been through the most unimaginable events, which no one could ever fathom. I have and will continue to be very cooperative and fully comply with any such request," she added.

"It's absurd that this kind of misinformation is being reported by the media," Sharon contuned.

"To the best of my knowledge, there has been no evidence of mold at the Murphy residence," Murphy's attorney said.

The 'Clueless' star and her husband both died of the same thing -- pneumonia and severe anemia. Murphy succumbed in December, while Monjack was found dead this past May.

Brittany was a cute and funny actress. If there was mold in her life, it was that lump of drunk blubber that was her husband.

Mold has never killed anyone, it's the usual money making scammers that start this nonsense. It's no different than the scammers from 9/11 with their "asthma", or the mesothelioma victims with their "asbestos", or the apt. low lifes with their imbecile children due to "lead". They are all liars, con artists,opportunists, and total low lifes inventing illness to steal money from the public till.

There is a grain of truth in what rggirt says about so called toxic mold. Why did this industry only start in the last 20 years? The world was a MUCH moldier place beforet then.

I had Toxic mold and it did almost kill me, and when I seen her husband died of the same thing, that is the first thing I thought of, doctors usually don't recognize it as real. It does also seem odd that the mother would make the statements she did.

Maybe they should investigate all avenues of these deaths. There is no reason they shouldn't check the mom out too. Who stands to gain the most in this situation? Wouldn't be the first time a family member killed for money.

WTF is wrong with her mother that she'd rather have it believed that her daughter died from drug use than from mold? Is she afraid her housekeeping skills are going to be questioned?

my husband almost died from a pnemonia caused by mold in dirt.
She could easily have mold and not know it. It took many test for them to find the cause of my husbands heart failure and pnemonia symptoms. Never ever over look mold. It is very dangerous and stealthy too.

The mother has lived in the same house and why isn't her health affected if it is black mold?

Why can't you folks just accept the truth? Brittany and her husband died from long term drug abuse, end of story. There is no mystery mold, her mother didn't poison them, they just both ended up as two more dead pill poppers. It's sad, but it's true.

Folks, no one prints their qualifications when they definitively state that "toxic mold kills". Are you epidemiologists, MD, PhD,toxicologists?? I bet none of you are, just ignorant bunch of yentas. I think that there is a little something freaky going on..it is more than just coincidence that these 2 people die with the same thing in that short of time span. If I was the mother, I would be packing my bags until that house was checked out....what are the chances of 2 people dying of respiratory problems with in a 6 month period....it would be like winning the lottery....
