John Hamm: My Girlfriend Is the Love of My Life

Some people associate actor John Hamm with his philandering character on 'Mad Men,' Don Draper. But in a new interview with Parade Magazine, he clears up any misconception--while he might not want to get married any time soon, he only has eyes for girlfriend, actress Jennifer Westfeldt.

"I don't have the marriage chip, and neither of us have the greatest examples of marriages in our families. But Jen is the love of my life, and we've already been together four times longer than my parents were married," the dapper TV star tells Parade.

In the interview, Hamm also talks about his show, what it was like losing his parents at such a young age and what it was like before his big break. More excerpts from the interview after the jump.

On auditioning for roles in the '90s when he had no money:
"I drove around in a Volkswagen Rabbit I shared with one of my roommates, and it didn't have a roof. It doesn't rain much in L.A., but when it did, it was utterly miserable."

On his breakthrough role on 'Mad Men':
"I loved the original script, but I thought, 'Who's going to watch this kind of show on some random cable channel?'"

On being recognized:
"Jen and I were in Italy this year and we were looking at Michelangelo's sculpture of David when we noticed people staring at us and talking about Mad Men. I thought, 'People, there's a great work of art here, and it's the other way.'"

On losing his parents:
"Losing both parents at a young age gave me a sense that you can't really control life--so you'd better live it while it's here. I stopped believing in a storybook existence a long time ago. All you can do is push in a direction and see what comes of it."

Yeah for them! real love does not need a contract, ask Johnny Depp and his girlfriend, Jon and Jennifer have a good solid union it seems, hope this fame does not turn Jon's head. Women are throwing themselves at him, but this girl was there and helped him get where he is today, casting him in plays and movies. Dear M.A.

I have a friend who thinks everyone good looking actor is gay. Maybe it makes her feel better about not "having" them. I don't know. Whatever....This is not 1943 when gay actors ran the risk of no longer being a matinee idol if their homosexuality was exposed.... If Jon Hamm is gay, please don't say it is a waste; it isn't a "waste" for other GAY guys. He IS very handsome and I find it disappointing that he's found "the love of his life" regardless of which gender that is because I was waiting for him. :-) I'm kidding. But he IS very handsome and talented. Whatever he does, whoever he loves is his business. The best to him...and Jen, too.

Jon Hamm is very sexy and Mad Men is one of the best shows out there now. Love it!!

to the one who thought he was gay (not that there's anything wrong with it) - wtf?? really?? I would never think this man gay, don't believe everything you hear. Yeah, I had a gay friend who always thought "oh, that one belongs to our church" - that's what he would say about EVERY good looking man he saw, bugged the hell out of me. Not all good looking men are gay, sorry.
