'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Talks About Sexuality For First Time

Former 'Roseanne' actress Sara Gilbert quietly came out publicly as a lesbian at a press conference during the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly reports. Although she has never discussed her sexuality, it's been widely accepted that she was out of the closet -- as she has two children with TV producer Allison Adler.

One reporter asked Gilbert if she was comfortable being "out" on her new talk show, 'The Talk,' and the actress opened up about her sexuality. "This is a whole new world for me. I'm not an expert on this, or I don't analyze these things," she explained. "I'm just sort of living my life."

"I don't think [being out] will be a problem ... I don't ever really think of things as being out or in ... I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I'll talk about them and share when it seems right," she added.

Gilbert and Adler have been together since 2002 and have a son, Levi, 5, and a daughter, Sawyer, who turns 3 in August. Adler gave birth to Levi, while Gilbert gave birth to Sawyer.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show, so obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I'd rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here," she added.

Gilbert is executive producing and co-hosting 'The Talk,' a 'View'-esque talk show focusing on motherhood and parenting. The other ladies on the panel are Julie Chen, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

I've always liked her, i thought "Darlene" was a riot! She's kept her business to herself and not been in the tabs, etc, that in my book is great! If they're happy, good for them, don't let anybody tell you what you should be or do in life!! Let's not act like hetero couples are all happy and normal, right? Since when is Sawyer a boys name? I know more female Sawyers than male Sawyers. It is a unisex name like Taylor. And she is not a has been anything she just does alot more behind the camera now.

It seems to me that gays are not a crime against Nature as much as they are exsamples of Nature's crime against being. Being a deviant from the norm can't be an easy road whether it involves those exhibiting extreme intelligence/barely educable, a raving beauty/an ugly duckling, a virtuoso/a klutz, and so on.
