'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Talks About Sexuality For First Time

Former 'Roseanne' actress Sara Gilbert quietly came out publicly as a lesbian at a press conference during the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly reports. Although she has never discussed her sexuality, it's been widely accepted that she was out of the closet -- as she has two children with TV producer Allison Adler.

One reporter asked Gilbert if she was comfortable being "out" on her new talk show, 'The Talk,' and the actress opened up about her sexuality. "This is a whole new world for me. I'm not an expert on this, or I don't analyze these things," she explained. "I'm just sort of living my life."

"I don't think [being out] will be a problem ... I don't ever really think of things as being out or in ... I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I'll talk about them and share when it seems right," she added.

Gilbert and Adler have been together since 2002 and have a son, Levi, 5, and a daughter, Sawyer, who turns 3 in August. Adler gave birth to Levi, while Gilbert gave birth to Sawyer.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show, so obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I'd rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here," she added.

Gilbert is executive producing and co-hosting 'The Talk,' a 'View'-esque talk show focusing on motherhood and parenting. The other ladies on the panel are Julie Chen, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

explains the fake blush...no shame...Leah Remini is a favorite star of me and my wife's but if she is going to be on there with with Sharon Osbourne and this Roseanne protege...totally lost all respect for her. ..this show is just another sour vomit up in your mouth and swallow again type of brainless entertainment...having a little shame isn't always a bad thing...but we can't even blush anymore.

No matter who says it, or how often it is publicized, they simply can't make this RIGHT. Their private life is their own--not media fodder! If they choose this lifestyle, I can't tell them they're wrong--but I sure don't want to know all about it, either! It's NOT OUR BUSINESS. SHUT UP. Keep your private life PRIVATE. I don't hate you. I'm not going to say anything hateful because that's not my style but...why oh why do we need to know this information? Why can't people just live their lives the way they want to without making these announcements all the time? Why do we need to know this? How is this our business? That's the part I don't get!! I personally do NOT need to know this about ANYbody! People that like to gossip would like this info so why give it to them? Makes no sense. I guess the person revealing this info wants to be talked about and in the news. Otherwise, there is no other reason. They are looking for attention, or acceptance. It's all just too much information!

It's nice for her that she can be open about her sexuality, which is really a non issue. What is an issue is that due to her fame and success on Roseanne, she is set for life financially. That show broke a lot of new ground on TV and portrayed gays and lesbians in a positive manner. I applaud her for being herself, but when you have money, it's a lot easier to be out to the world.

No, mommy. They have two children together. The article doesn't say that they got together and created the children. Brad and Angelina have 6 children together -- and neither of them were involved in the creation of the first three. Talk about being closed-minded. How pathetic!

I knew she was like that since I first saw her on Roseanne.
But she must like men too...or she wouldn't have kids. So I figure this means she is BI instead of just gay. And when you talk to men about two women doing it...well it makes them even more excited anyway. And no one is perfect so all these people who say: sick, gross, we don't need anymore on that team and so on, well I'm sure they do things that are disscusting but their life just isn't a public tabliod story, so we don't get to hear their dirty little secrets. Most people who you knew before that became really religeious. well they are seeking forgivness for something they already did and think that by going to church they justify what they did before. But don't get me wrong...lots of good people go to church too and yes they do discusting things too but they do it in private. So my thing is...who cares that she likes women too? Why is this news?
