'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Talks About Sexuality For First Time

Former 'Roseanne' actress Sara Gilbert quietly came out publicly as a lesbian at a press conference during the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly reports. Although she has never discussed her sexuality, it's been widely accepted that she was out of the closet -- as she has two children with TV producer Allison Adler.

One reporter asked Gilbert if she was comfortable being "out" on her new talk show, 'The Talk,' and the actress opened up about her sexuality. "This is a whole new world for me. I'm not an expert on this, or I don't analyze these things," she explained. "I'm just sort of living my life."

"I don't think [being out] will be a problem ... I don't ever really think of things as being out or in ... I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I'll talk about them and share when it seems right," she added.

Gilbert and Adler have been together since 2002 and have a son, Levi, 5, and a daughter, Sawyer, who turns 3 in August. Adler gave birth to Levi, while Gilbert gave birth to Sawyer.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show, so obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I'd rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here," she added.

Gilbert is executive producing and co-hosting 'The Talk,' a 'View'-esque talk show focusing on motherhood and parenting. The other ladies on the panel are Julie Chen, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

I loved Sara on Roseanne. Darlene was my favorite character on there, along with her boyfriend David (Johnny Galecki, who is now awesome on The Big Bang Theory). That is cool she's gonna have a talk show. I'll have to check it out.

What like about Sara is she keeps it quiet and lives her life. She doesn't throw it in our faces like Ellen D. does. or Queen L. I hope she con'ts to be that way and just live without pushing it in on us.

It's all about making money and television RATINGS. If it sells, the public will buy it. I am personally sick and tired of the gay/lesbian agenda being shoved in my face. It is NOT accepted by the majority...and for those who think it "popular" and feel obligated to support it...please reconsider. They are looking for validation of their immoral and unnatural behavior. They need to seek treatment and stop the insanity of it all. To think that they're having/raising CHILDREN as two same-sex partners is the most selfish and cruel thing thing one could do to an innocent life.

Thank you Kimberly, for telling me my sister is immoral and unnatural. Che, grow up. My -entire- family is incredibly supportive of her and she has a great partner, an awesome job, and is planning TO HAVE KIDS within the next year or so. She is also my best friend. So I say kudos to Sarah and her partner and hope they have a long life filled with happiness ahead of them!

And maybe they don't believe in "your" hateful god Cinda.
Then they won't burn in hell, right?
