'Roseanne' Star Sara Gilbert Talks About Sexuality For First Time

Former 'Roseanne' actress Sara Gilbert quietly came out publicly as a lesbian at a press conference during the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday, Entertainment Weekly reports. Although she has never discussed her sexuality, it's been widely accepted that she was out of the closet -- as she has two children with TV producer Allison Adler.

One reporter asked Gilbert if she was comfortable being "out" on her new talk show, 'The Talk,' and the actress opened up about her sexuality. "This is a whole new world for me. I'm not an expert on this, or I don't analyze these things," she explained. "I'm just sort of living my life."

"I don't think [being out] will be a problem ... I don't ever really think of things as being out or in ... I just think I am who I am, and when topics come up that are appropriate, I'll talk about them and share when it seems right," she added.

Gilbert and Adler have been together since 2002 and have a son, Levi, 5, and a daughter, Sawyer, who turns 3 in August. Adler gave birth to Levi, while Gilbert gave birth to Sawyer.

"I've been acting my whole life, and I've never really discussed my personal life. This is a talk show, so obviously, I'm going to be discussing my life more, and I felt that the first place I wanted to do it wasn't in a CBS press release. It just seemed impersonal, and I felt like I'd rather come in person and talk to you about all that stuff here," she added.

Gilbert is executive producing and co-hosting 'The Talk,' a 'View'-esque talk show focusing on motherhood and parenting. The other ladies on the panel are Julie Chen, Leah Remini, Holly Robinson Peete, Sharon Osbourne and Marissa Jaret Winokur.

She has the right idea...she doesn't focus on figuring it all out. She is what she is, and if "YOU" don't like it, then maybe YOU should be trying to figure out what's wrong with YOU.

God made all of us...gay, straight, whatever! Personally I think he is up there shaking his head....waiting for everyone to "cool it".

I thought good actors and actresses were supposed to be able to play any role. This nonsense about people accepting everyone, especially homosexuals need to check their religious history. God destroyed Sadam and Gamorrah, that is what He thought of homosexuality. It is not something new, every great society which gave away to sexual peversion was destroyed. Here is what people who talk about Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, or those who are referring to homosexuals as THOSE people need to grasp. No one is perfect.. Not even Adam and Eve. I was brought up to believe that color doesn't matter,we are all the HUMAN race.It also doesn't matter what someones' religion is,or their political preference.It also shouldn't matter if someone is gay,straight,a confirmed batchelor or anything else.It's no ones business.None of us is perfect and saintly enough to critize anyone for what they believe or how they feel.If being straight was in the minority,wouldn't you feel offended and defensive,being critized constantly?I've taught my son as I was taught-that all people are equal.I'm proud of him for being a truly caring kid,who looks past a persons color or handicap etc and just sees another person,the same as him,who deserves all the rights and respect that we all deserve.If you don't like the topic,the person,or their beliefs,don't read the story.Don't spend 5 minutes logging on and typing mean crud if you don't care.I seriously doubt Sara's show will last,based on the other tv stars who tried the same thing,but I wish her luck,and she's entitled to say whatever she wants on it.Those offended,should just switch channels.
