Heidi Montag Files for Divorce From Spencer Pratt

Heidi Montag has filed for divorce just two months after legally separating from estranged husband Spencer Pratt, citing irreconcilable differences in the divorce petition, which was filed in Santa Monica Superior Court.

Last month, 'The Hills' starlet moved out of the home she shared with Pratt. When the couple first broke up, Heidi told PEOPLE, "There are so many lies out there about me and I just needed space -- even away from my husband."

"Heidi has amended her petition for separation and today has filed a petition for dissolution of marriage from Spencer Pratt," Montag's lawyer, Jodeane Farrell, said. "The couple has agreed they would like their divorce to be finalized in a timely manner in an out of court settlement. Both parties are amicable with each other and over the possibility of finalizing their divorce."

Pratt opened up about the divorce, saying the couple's marriage was a sham. "I love Heidi but our marriage was a show -- it was part of The Hills world," Pratt said. "And that world is on a sound stage."

"Some say if you can't handle the heat get out of the kitchen, Well, Heidi couldn't handle King Spencer's fame so she got out of the marriage," he added.

A source close to Montag and Pratt said that the breakup was a long time coming. "It wasn't just a sudden thing. Heidi is looking to move out due to all the fake bad press that Spencer controls. She's tired of it and is looking for a place and wants to focus on her acting career," her rep told TMZ.

The pair made a name for themselves as the frenemies of 'Hills' star Lauren Conrad. Their relationship and eventual marriage were chronicled on the hit MTV series.

Montag and Pratt exchanged vows in April of 2009, in front of 200 guests and an MTV camera crew.
