Sandra Bullock's spokeswoman says the actress wants out of a video asking Congress to deliver funding to restore the Gulf Coast until she learns whether the campaign was influenced by oil companies. The move came after the website DeSmogBlog called the campaign an industry ploy to get support for drilling and taxpayer money to repair wetland damage caused by the BP oil spill.
Women of the Storm, the group that produced the video, lists America's Wetland Foundation as a partner. As DeSmogBlog points out, the foundation lists BP and other oil companies as sponsors on its website.
Anne Milling, founder of Women of the Storm, tells the AP that the foundation provided experts and information, but says the video was not funded by oil companies.
In the video, Bullock is joined by a bevy of other stars, many of whom hail from Gulf Coast states. Dave Matthews, Harry Shearer, Blake Lively, Peyton Manning and Emeril Lagasse, among others, ask people to "Be the One" to take action to help fund the environmental recovery effort.
"What can you offer?" Bullock asks in the PSA. "Your voice. Speak up!"
Women of the Storm, a nonpartisan group that has spearheaded recovery efforts for past disasters, is hoping to collect one million signatures. Since the video was uploaded to YouTube two weeks ago, just over 121,000 people have signed the petition on restorethegulf.com.
Aww, so self-important with that "one" finger up and serious face. Narcissists never fail to amuse me. They probably gave themselves goose bumps, while making this video. LMAO!
@alfredschrader, Hey, I'm still waiting to see that display of marksmanship you bragged about on another post. Could it be that you can't do it, and are just a "blowhard" with an over developed sense of your own ability? If I am mistaken, prove me wrong by posting a video of it on youtube.
She is no queen and never will be. We will all be involved in everybody's greed for money. All the people that are responsible for all the offshore drilling for years have made a fortune and changed our environment forever. As for these movie stars who feel it necessary to campaign for whatever they think is their calling at the time, I say who cares. Forget taking Sandra's bleep out of a video. BP will be paying for the destruction they caused for a lot longer than Bulleck will be around. She's nothing but a movie star and doesn't deserve special treatment. Forget it Sandra. You have had enough publicity lately and most of it isn't so good.
Shelia, Do you really think that BP will be paying for this spill long after Bullock is gone. BP will be gone long before the oil will be. They even announced today that they are pulling back on cleanup efforts. Do the math, how long ago was the explosion, when did they start clean up, how long has the oil been capped.
Sandra is one of the reasons I signed the petition, also because I live in the gulf area. I am just sick of big money using everyone to get more money! Enough already. Business' need to be more responsible and government needs to stop trying to be a business. At some point we need to learn that it is NOT all about the money. It is about the balance of our world. That includes a disrupted inlet of water in New Orleans that could eventually have repercussions all the way to the White House.
This is the most logical and to the point, from the article above material written, that fits the profile, and for prominant people whomever they are, supporting a cause...
Do Not forget these people have monies invested in causes, and the type of monies our government does not give to these causes alone... or shall I say to add to what our government gives to causes which exceeds an expense we have no ideal of what it all includes in clean-up efforts, loss of ecosystem, work, etc. etc.
The only way this gulf gush and coverage gets on screen is with celebraties--Joe Smith and Jane Black will never attract the cameras like a few movie stars, sorry, just the way things work. And, living on the coast, we need all the help we can get now.
What difference does it make who the sponsors are? Either you want to help or you don't. No drama queens needed here. As for desmogblog, what the hell is on their agenda? Sounds anti-corp and political to me. Would rather cause harm than help the cause?
Sandra Bullock is a decent human being and doesn't deserve the ridicule here. Just because people are famous for whatever reason, it doesn't take away their voice or their feelings for the country they call home. Perhaps she just feels that any Congressional funding for this is a lot like a bail out for the one's that created this mess out there in the first place. Personally, either way we are all going to pay for it, through taxes if there is Congressional funding or higher gas prices if PB has to pay for it.
congress has no money, they will get it from us. BP needs to take care of this, and congress needs to see to it. Bunch of corrupt swine. Get out Sandra while the gettin is good.
What a silly mommy! Katie Holmes takes Suri into the water in her clothes as the two spend the afternoon at the beach in Miami. More of Today's Hottest Photos
