The Women of 'Mad Men' Encouraged to Skip Gym to Keep Those Curves

Curves are so in on 'Mad Men' that some actresses from the show have been warned to stay away from the gym.
StyleList reports that January Jones -- who plays troubled housewife Betty Draper on the hit AMC series -- tells the new issue of Tatler magazine that 'Mad Men' creator Matthew Weiner has warned her and fellow castmates
Christina Hendricks and
Elisabeth Moss to avoid hitting the gym so they'll stay curvy.
"He would prefer we didn't work out and that we eat really well, so we look like healthy women," says the 32-year-old blonde beauty, who was scolded last year for being too thin, according to the newspaper.
Jones, who admits that she loves beer and carbs, is happy to follow Weiner's orders, especially because she's sending the message to 'Mad Men' viewers that "it's OK to have curves and be a woman," she explains. "I wish more women would realize that's what men like."
Another benefit of carrying a few extra pounds: the sexy hourglass silhouette Jones gets from the girdle she wears for the show. Says the star, "It gives you such a nice shape."
Ultra-curvy Christina Hendricks would appear to be in a different boat than Jones. Earlier this year, Hendricks, whose tight-fitting tops as office manager Joan have redefined how sexy curves can be, watched as her healthy look was torn apart by bloggers after her red carpet walk at the Golden Globes.
"I still remember all those negative comments, despite all the wonderful positivity,"
Hendricks told Shape last month.
"That's why we're all in therapy! [We remember] the ten bad things that happen to us instead of the 100 nice ones."
Hendricks admits she has previously had to force herself to go to the gym to keep fit and trim but has learned to enjoy working out. "I've had to train myself to get down to the gym. But what surprised me was that my husband said, 'I'm going down to work out,' and I was like, 'Oh, I wish I was going.' My friends will read this and be like, 'No you didn't,' but it's true!"

January Jones is NOT curvy. She is a stick and looks like a boy. The other ladies look decent.

She is SOOOO right on. As a man I loves the curves of a real woman. Pencil thin women are NOT a turn on.

Its nice to hear that these ladies, dont have to be size 2 to keep their jobs. Holly wood has made too much about thin woman for so many years. All woman look better with some weight on them, men too. When I see a old movie, it is very different from the ones made in the last few decades. Like Marilyn Monroe for example, she wouldnt have had a chance in a movie now. She would have been told to drop 30 pounds, before she could have been in any movie. Silly but very true. Young girls live by this thin rule, it needs to end. I dont think it ever will though.
