Michael Lohan: 'I Definitely Blame Myself'

Just before Lindsay Lohan was released from jail, I sat down with her father, Michael Lohan, for my new HDNet 'Naughty But Nice with Rob' talk show. In our revealing chat, Michael admits for the first time that he is responsible for his daughter's current situation.

"I definitely blame myself and take responsibility for where my daughter is," he told me.

It was a different Michael, a father whose pain clearly wasn't put on for the camera. Talking about little Lindsay growing up in Long Island, going to auditions for TV jobs and finally hitting the big time in 'The Parent Trap,' Michael had tears in his eyes wondering how everything went so wrong so fast.

He clearly blames himself and his ugly divorce from Dina Lohan, but he didn't hesitate to offer harsh words for his ex, who he points out has never admitted any responsibility.

"If she [Dina] doesn't get on board with me and mend fences, she will be the one person who will continue to destroy Lindsay," he told me. "She has to stop thinking about making money off Lindsay and she has to stop listening to her brothers and mother: The three people who are keeping us apart."

Michael recounted how he and his ex were on friendly terms as recently as July 4, but that after Lindsay was sentenced two days later, she began shunning him again. He insists Dina has ignored professional advice on how to reign in their troubled daughter.

"Why is it that Lindsay's lawyers, therapists and doctors have asked Dina to have family counseling sessions, but she won't?" Michael wondered. "If your kids matter that much, you make sacrifices and forsake oneself for your kids. This is all in Dina's hands. What she does will decide the outcome."

Dad doesn't shoulder any blame either but is willing to appear that he does to get interviewed....he sees it as a way to a payday. Mom sees Lindsay as an ongoing payday and trying to exert any positive influence could affect said payday.

Blame both parents, Dina takes no blame for any of this. She is just as bad if not worse than Michael.

When you are divorced the mother is usally the care giver. In Lindsey's case her mother acts like a teenager. Sometimes I think Lindsey is the grown-up and that is not saying much. I would never let my daughter run wild like she did. Everyone hates her dad and I'm not saying he is great but I do think he is trying to get her help. He knows she needs it. To her parents: try to get your daughter help or you may be going to her funeral not a red carpet event.

He's doing a toss-away "blame myself" when in reality he says that so he can continue on his rampage against Dina. Lindsay is an adult and doesn't want a relationship with him. That's his fault, not Dina's. He abused his family for years and is unstable. He was engaged last week and has a new girlfriend already. He's the problem.

One of the answers for this was obvious, but it never
happened. Instead of Michael Lohan going on Maury to
shamefully reach out to Lindsay Lohan in the wrong way
(thereby being on the most outragious talkshow, ever!),
he should've appeared on, or dragged her onto either
Dr. Phil or The Oprah Winfrey Show to make Lindsay
see the danger she was headed for, or to reunite her
with the family, again. However, It was too late.
Lindsay Lohan has to make the decision for herself,
now, so I can see Michael's side of this, but somehow,
I'm not too sure he's just going to leave it at that.

Richard you have got to be kidding me to put the sole blame on one parent or the other, clearly Michael screwed up but so had Dina she wanted to be a friend and still get the financial support Lindsey gave to her, you notice she hasn't been in the paper or spoken about in media wonder why that is because she's on another path with another child of hers, afterall her meal ticket is locked away so another emerges. Why should we believe any thing this man says? He is the one trying to extend his 15 minutes of fame at every possible opportunity. Lindsay's Mom has not been the one courting the reporters. If you care about your daughter just SHUT UP!

Yes, Michael Lohan is right,Lindsay is the way she is because of him, but Dina Lohan is just as much to blame as he is, if not more so for taking advantage of her daughter and her daughters career, which Dina let the girl do things no good mother would have a daughter do. She spared to rod and spoiled the child leaving her to ruin a promising career. I hope this rehab will wake Lindsay up, big time. The both parents need a good swift kick in the posteriors.
