Pamela Anderson Helps Relocate Dogs Affected by Oil Spill

From slamming fur-wearing celebrities to
posing in the buff,
Pamela Anderson continues to take her role as honorary director for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) very seriously.
Anderson is helping PETA move 48 dogs affected by the oil spill from New Orleans to Virginia, covering the animals' local adoption costs, including flea treatments and spay and neutering services. Joined by a sea of volunteers in New Orleans City Park Monday, Anderson personally helped prepare the dogs for their journey north.
"Everywhere you go, there are far more dogs than good homes, but the crisis in Louisiana is prompting people to open their hearts and doors to animals in trouble," says Anderson.
Responding to a call from the Humane Society of Louisiana, PETA came to the Gulf Coast to assist local organizations with the evacuation of animals affected by the oil spill. Working with the Virginia Beach SPCA, PETA has scheduled an emergency adopt-a-thon to place each dog in a loving home. Following Anderson's example, American Airlines and Southwest Airlines flew PETA volunteers to Louisiana free of charge to help with the move.
"The oil catastrophe has made things worse for many animals, but our shelter, like shelters everywhere, is always full and will be until people spay and neuter," said Linda Allen, manager of the St. John Baptist Parish Animal Shelter, one of the local groups working with Anderson and PETA.
Louisiana residents interested in adopting a dog can visit
HumaneLA.org for more information. Virginia residents looking to adopt a dog are encouraged to call PETA at 757-622-7382. All dogs will be dewormed, up-to-date on their shots and spayed or neutered upon adoption.

Dogs... affected... by... the... oil... spill? Gee, according to the Virginia Beach SPCA, their shelters are ALWAYS full of animals needing to be spayed or neutered before they can get a home. This is just another "never let a good crisis go to waste" moment for PETA to grab some publicity. If the major prohibitor of pet adoption is spaying and neutering, why didnn't PETA, the Virginia Beach SPCA, and the other local organizations involved in this effort have a fundraiser specifically to spay and neuter the animals in the first place? There may be lots of families who want to adopt pets but spaying/neutering, vaccinations, flea/tick/worm treatments and a general health check by a veterinarian is a lot of money up front.
As for Pam Anderson? No wonder the "All Animals Have the Same Parts" PETA poster she posed for didn't label her with a brain.
