2010 MTV Video Music Awards Nominees Announced, Lady Gaga Leads With Record 13

MTV has announced the nominees for the 2010 Video Music Awards, with Lady Gaga unsurprisingly leading the race with a record 13 nominations (16 if you include the nods for her collaboration with Beyoncé, 'Video Phone'), including Best Female Video and two nods for the coveted Video of the Year.
While the usual suspects --
Beyoncé,
Usher,
Jay Z, and
Eminem -- are well represented among the nominees, indier fair like Florence + the Machine and 30 Seconds to Mars also got some love from MTV. Our BFF, Justin Bieber, is up for Best New Artist, a category up for public vote, so you just know he's a lock. Biggest snub?
Rihanna, who earned just one nomination for the editing of her 'Rude Boy' video.
Check out the full list after the jump.

This is kinda ridiculous. Eminem's whole new album is zillion times better than all that's been nominated here, and only one of his songs find its place here. I would nominate his album Recovery for the biggest music achievement in the last 5 years (if not a whole decade), at least. Nevertheless, I hope "Not Afraid" win all the awards where it's been nominated because it really is the best and most inspiring song of the year.

It's a VIDEO awards show, there's only been one VIDEO from Recovery (and I found the "Not Afraid" video too bizarre for my tastes). You're looking for the Grammys or AMAs or something.
This is a fairly uninspired Video of the Year crop - if only half the attention had been given to "Paparazzi", which reaffirmed my faith that music videos could still be art despite most of Gaga's nominations going to "Poker Face" instead last year, that went to the overrated "Single Ladies", maybe this year's crop wouldn't be basically acceptable. But if "Paparazzi"'s overindulgent followup "Telephone" wins, Michael Jackson will be turning in his grave.
