One can't blame you for rubbing you eyes to see if the woman above really is the same rocker chick that ranted about being 'Complicated.' Avril Lavigne may appear to be tough as nails, but she has a softer side that she's revealed since making her foray into the fragrance industry.
In the summer of 2009, the Canadian native introduced the world to her first perfume, Black Star, a fruity-floral with a sweet juice comprised of pink hibiscus flower, black plum, and dark chocolate.
Now the 25-year-old singer is taking things to a new level with Forbidden Rose, which launches in mid August at Kohl's stores nationwide. Want to know what it smells like? Close your eyes and imagine a fruity-floral blended with red apple, wine peach, and white lotus, but with a woody base made up of vanilla and sweet prailine -- perfecting a much more sophisticated scent. No, this does not smell like a cramped concert hall.
"I wanted to create a fragrance which takes the unique attitude of my first scent to a new emotional depth, adding mystery as well as a bit of magic," Lavigne told our friend Dana Oliver from StyleList in an exclusive interview. Read some of the best bits below:
StyleList: Were you involved in the scent-making process?
Avril Lavigne: I was involved with everything because I have to make sure it's something that I can stand behind and it has to represent me. Not only visually did I go through everything with creating the box, font and bottle, but I went through the whole message behind it including the ad campaign and commercial. I like the fragrance because you can wear it at day and night. Its fresh, edgy and fun. It makes me feel good. All of my girlfriends wear it, so we basically smell the same.
SL: Is there anything you feel absolutely naked without?
AL: The thing that I'm most addicted to is black eyeliner. It's been my obsession for years.
SL: Are there any fashion mistakes from your past that you remember and regret?
AL: I feel like my style has evolved since I was 17 years old and I'm 25 now. I've changed fashion-wise which is normal to do. But I look back and see all of the pictures and all of the different crazy things that I wore. And it was cool back then wearing the tie and skater pants.

My granddaughter loves her Abby Dawn line of clothes. They are cute, well made, and not cheesy or trashy looking, and they launder well. I'm sure we will be buying some very soon for back to school.

I personally loved her when I was 17 and still do today...I remember when she first came out. I always thought she was super pretty and still do. She just doesn't seem to get any older. I love the fact that she does her own hair/make-up when she tours (well at least she did when she was younger...)because she said she knows what she wants to look like so she just does it herself. Very refreshing!

I always thought she was hot, but in that top pic she is WoW, Beautiful! I like her music OK and don't know why some people are so bent just 'cause they said "rocker chick". Do they all have to be burnt out drug and sex crazy with a foul mouth or what? Some people are so jealous of young people's success.

I've been a music collector for over 40 years...and noit everyone likes everything...I happen to enjoy her music, and if the term "girl rocker" offends you, then you really need to get out of the house a little more often. She's a little more pop than say, Taylor Momsen's band...but she's done well with what she's put out there. If you think you can do better, folks, then by all means, do the work, get out there and play and do exactly what she did...get the attention of a major record label, and see how well you can do at it. I'll certainly listen to what you've got if you think you're that good...but if it's all just jealousy because someone young has made a success of herself, then you don't belong in the music business, and you certainly are no judge or jury. No one's music is for everyone, including the music YOU like to listen to. My personal taste: I enjoy a fair amount of Avril's music, some songs more than others.
