Fantasia Barrino Hospitalized for Aspirin Overdose

'American Idol' winner Fantasia Barrino was hospitalized Monday night after overdosing on aspirin and a sleep aid following an "overwhelming" day of media backlash for a relationship she's having with a married man, the singer's manager has confirmed.

"She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time," the rep, Brian Dickens, said in a statement to TMZ. "Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon. Fantasia is a fighter and a survivor. This is not the hardest thing Fantasia has endured."

But as her rep attempts to downplay the overdose, a police report obtained by RadarOnline.com classifies the incident as an "801 - suicide" and calls Barrino's injuries "serious."

Barrino was admitted to Mercy South Hospital in Pineville at around 9 p.m. It followed a day of damaging reports linking her as the other woman in a child custody lawsuit against her married boyfriend, Antwuan Cook. The complaint, filed by Paula Cook, claims an affair started in August 2009 and that the two "have at times recorded their illicit sexual activity."

The complaint also states that Barrino has treated Cook to lavish trips across the country to be with her at concert appearances. She also has a large tattoo of "Cook" just below her left collar bone. He is said to have a similar marking in the same spot on his body, according to documents.

"Yesterday, she was totally overwhelmed by the lawsuit and the media attention," the manager told TMZ.

Paula Cook filed the complaint seeking custody of the estranged couple's two young children, ages 6 and 2, as well as child support, alimony and ownership of the couple's home. She is not suing Barrino.

Barrino's manager released a statement Monday afternoon, saying the singer is "not responsible for the deterioration of the Cook's marriage" and that she will "weather this storm with the dignity and grace that she has exemplified throughout" her life.

Barrino, an eight-time Grammy nominee, was the 2004 winner on 'American Idol.'

Whatever Stephanie, you're not really dumb enough to put any stock into that lame excuse you've offered are you? Mindlessly defend her all you want, but at the end of the day no one really craes about that idiot (what's up with this juvenile inclination so many have to record sex acts) and his pending divorce, wrong is still wrong. Given the level of her celebrity they should have worked harder to stay out of the public eye until the divorce was final and they would have realized that if they had half a brain between them. Some things are just plain dumb even if they're not technically illegal and intelligent people get that.

Anyone can have an aspirin overdose.To do it over a married man is totally stupid.My son's father died of a drug overdose.So it's not funny to tell someone to kill themselves for any reason.Too many children being left unattended on here.Where is your parents?? Playing Farmville??

Wow you people are crazy to think that Fantasia is at fault. No one knows the full story and as far her respecting their marriage thats not her place thats the mans job he is the one that married her. Eveyone know how people get when its a celeb the wife might just want some attention and ppl like yall givin her just what she want. We don't know his situation... they could have been seperated or anything and a train wreck shes not she had a hard life but far from a train wreck. Everybody makes mistakes.. No one is immune to the trails and tribulations of this world.. It was definitely bad judgement on Fantasias' part to (mess with a married man), although I'm sure he lied and said he was seperated, but it's no reason to kick her when she's already down. Get back up Fantasia and try again.. A saint is just a sinner who fell down..

Why is she supporting her whole family to begin with. I saw bits and pieces of her reality show and her idiot brother doesn't have a job and relys on her for support/money/ a real loser. Fantasia get a grip on reality throw the 'moochers' out of your house and start saving money like the rest of us or you will end of losing everything (including your dignity if you already haven't!!!

Fantasia lives in a state where the wife can sue the other woman. She is lucky that she isn't going to sue her from what I've read. I love Fantasia.but I am very disappointed in her. I know that in todays world is seems to be alright to cheat. We don't have a right to breakup up families. Find someone one single. We don't always get everything we want in our lives and certianly not someone else husband or wife. Jennie
