Ricky Gervais Taking 'The Office' to China, Won't Be Replacing Steve Carell

Ricky Gervais announced yesterday that he's bringing 'The Office' to China, proving that day-to-day workplace minutiae and incompetent bosses aren't unique to the Western world.

The New York Post reports that the British comedian is expanding his beloved series -- which began as a 14-episode BBC show and spawned a mega-successful American version now in it seventh season, as well as French, German and Chilean versions, among others -- with a Chinese version.

"I have some amazing news," Gervais wrote on his blog. "We are about to start work on developing a Chinese 'The Office.' How cool is that?"

Gervais also clarified rumors that he might step in as Dunder Mifflin boss when Steve Carell leaves the series at the end of season 7.

"I'm not taking over from Steve Carell and will just continue to make millions for doing f*** all," he wrote, "because I created the show and all the characters, and own the format and it's being syndicated now and I get paid every time any episode of any version is played anywhere in the world."
