Zsa Zsa Gabor Returns to the Hospital

Zsa Zsa Gabor has returned to the hospital after suffering a setback in her recuperation from hip replacement surgery, her publicist has announced. John Blanchette says he does not know the nature of the complications.

Gabor returned home Wednesday night after spending four weeks at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center. The 93-year-old actress was swarmed by photographers as medics ferried her from the ambulance into her Bel Air home.

Gabor had been hospitalized at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center since she broke her hip July 17. The actress's condition began to deteriorate after hip-replacement surgery days later, and she remained hospitalized for the following three weeks. On Tuesday, Gabor's publicist announced the actress had an infection.

Throughout her hospital stay, there were a series of conflicting reports intimating that she was near death (fueled by her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt) as well as "going strong" (daughter Constance Francesca Hilton).

Gabor was originally hospitalized in July after she fell out of bed while watching TV in her home in Bel-Air, California. Gabor has been partially paralyzed since a 2002 car accident and had a stroke five years ago -- Blanchette describes her as "pretty much bedridden and wheelchair-bound for the last eight years."

"She's fragile, but she's still very bright -- she still makes me laugh," Blanchette said of recent visits with Gabor. "Her faculties are intact, but her body's failing her."

The New York Times refers to Gabor as "the prototypical 'professional celebrity': famous merely for being famous." Prototypical indeed -- who can't name one or five of those types today?

When she was released from the hospital I thought she was lucky. Now I ma not so sure. The nature of the injury is extremely serious and according to some doctors it is a death sentence within the first six months after the surgery. My grandmother broke her hip at home when she slip getting into bed and was taken to the hospital where after attempts to repair the damage she ended dying due to a clot. The elderly have more problems with brittle bones and the older they are the more likely they will not survive the year.

She wasn't always a sweet person, but this is such a sad way to go. Kardashians notwithstanding, it will be hard to replace the fun presence of the Gabor sisters & their mom.

I remember the days when Bob Hope would kid her, she took it in
stride. To be honest, she wasn't much of a talent but she and
her sister Eva,were pretty and that helped a great deal in their
lives. Mom would push them and they were very successful. I think
she was married 8 times ? OMG....Guess she can't make a decision.
It is a pity all the old movie stars are going or gone. 93 Is not
a bad age. I wish her well.

Actually as an actress ZsaZsa was very talented at being ZsaZsa just as John Wayne was talented at being John Wayne. Movie roles were written for their characters unlike more talented actors who can portay a variety of different characters. But what the heck, ZsaZsa and the Duke were good at what they did and we enjoyed them for it. Once on Donahue an audience member asked ZsaZsa "What are you famous for?" ZsaZsa smiled and replied "Getting married, dahling!"

I'm thinking the doctors in this case are a bunch of money hungry s.o.b.'s The poor woman is in her ninties, how much longer has she really got, and no I'm not being heartless, both of my grandmothers had the procedure and within six months they were gone. I would have rather had them alive
