Julia Roberts Could Learn a Lot From Kim Kardashian

With Sly Stallone crushing Julia Roberts in this weekend's box office, Hollywood is asking what the heck happened to America's favorite pretty woman? Experts tell me that surprisingly (okay, more like shockingly), omnipresent and self-promoting stars like Kim Kardashian are to blame.

"Julia has only headlined two films in almost 10 years -- discounting cameos and ensembles -- and so, like any paramour who plays hard to get, I think she lost her luster with audiences." Joe Neumaier, film critic for the New York Daily News, tells me. "The women who came of age with her since 'Pretty Woman' may associate with what her character goes through in 'Eat Pray Love,' but they may have gotten used to Julia in small doses."

Neumaier tells me that that a select demographic "was the only one who'd line up for this movie -- twentysomething girls won't relate, older women are past all that and guys headed to Stallone for roughneck refuge."

And while Julia has been hiding, none other than Kim Kardashian has transformed the way we interact with the stars we love. Kim lets her fans in on every aspect of her private life. Thanks to Twitter, her over 4 million followers, including me, know that last night she went to "the prettiest most magical wedding! Makes me believe in love!" Ahhhh, makes us love you too, Kim.

Julia deliberately keeps her distance from her fans, like a fair-weather friend who only calls when she wants us to go and see her movies. Then, after she has let us pay for the entire evening, she goes home and refuses to speak with us until she needs us again!

"Even Tom Cruise now has a Twitter account that he has a member of his team update," a studio executive told me, while laughing at the thought of Tom's little fingers actually having to update his own Twitter like the rest of us.

But even so, at least Tommy is trying to connect with his fans. And look at Angelina; although she has an account that she's never used, Angie connects with us all by great photo-ops with her kids that land her on the covers of magazines.

"A great picture of Angie and the kids or Kim Kardashian is worth thousands of dollars," a photo editor explains to me. "Whereas an image of Julia sells for around $20 bucks. None of the big magazine's think of her as a cover girl anymore and she's never the lead of the entertainment shows. These days, those slot beings to Angie, Kim or Kate Gosselin."

The one bit of good news is that she couldn't care less. A friend of Julia's tells me, "She has a ton of money, her great children and husband and although she loves acting, she couldn't care less if a photographer never took her picture again."

I think that's bs. I wouldn't see a movie that Kim headlined because quite frankly I see too much of her anyway. I don't even watch the show or use twitter but she's everywhere. And is it just me or is Khloe freakishly large? She looks more like Kevin Kardashian.

Julia ia a maturing actress, she palyed role woman obsessed to find herself& she pulled it off.. She's not 20...she 40 and looks pretty damn good!
I would not have my 16 year old watch the Kardashian TV trash & thier dad would prob roll over ( his grave) if saw their idiotic show!!!

Julia is more a movie star than an actress.
Her brother is a good actor. If you see "Pope of Greenwich Village" and "Purgatory", it's hard to believe it's the same person.

If I had to wake up to Julia Roberts everyday or Kim Kardashian. I would pick Julia hands down. Julia is such an American Girl !!!

Julia Roberts is one of a kind. She puts in family first before her job. I don't even know who this Kim person is and don't care. Trying to be in the spot light is not always a good thing. Julia, you make your movies when you want to and I'll watch them. Thanks for putting your family first.

Your suggestions that Julia should pimp herself out more (a la Kardashian)is way off base. I don't know anybody that would pay good money to see the Kardashians. People do want to see their favorite actors, but only if they think the movie is worth seeing and perhaps this was just the case for this movie.

Not quite right. It's not that the public demands to know every detail of the "pretty woman's" life, just because that's the approach taken by the silicone-pumped Kardashians. The problem is that when Julia does honor us with a new movie, it's a film version of an annoying book written by a woman who's even more narcissistic than she is! (True, a lot of women loved it, but many other women and men found it irritating as hell.) Who needs to rush to the theater just to wait for that one moment when Julia really tries to act and that vein in her forehead stands out??? We'll just let Julia enjoy her many millions, and wait for the next Nancy Meyers movie.

I'll take Meryl Streep over Julia Roberts any day. I don't think Julia is all that talented. I prefer to watch the Kardashians over Julia, and I'm nearly 50. I don't want to see the Kardashians in a movie though. I will watch the Kardashians on TV. If Julia Roberts is in anything - I will not watch. Now give me her brother Eric Roberts. He is totally worth watching!

The Expendables is a rehash for small minds; as for Kim Kardashian, I haven't noticed her having any particular talent. She seems content to look like a hooker. So Julia Roberts, who's a talented actress, a beautiful woman and an intelligent individual, has nothing to worry about.

This has to be the dumbest article I have ever read. First of all, "Eat, Pray, Love" wasn't "crushed" by "Expendables" - I know in my local theater, EPL only got one screen and "Expendables" got at least two. EPL had the fans of the book - a bestseller that's inspired readers to go on their own soul-searching trips - as a base, a base that included a few different demographics.
And when has Julia Roberts said she wishes she would get more press? That's why she moved to New Mexico, so she would be left alone!
And apostrophes don't make plurals, Rob Shuter. If your content is going to be pointless, you should at least have impeccable grammar.

Julia might have lost some of her luster but she can still act.Kim on the other hand has nothing to offer the public but her s--ty life and her big bust. If this is what the public wants so be it.But Julia has my vote any time.
