Tumor Discovered in Michael Douglas' Throat

Doctors have discovered a tumor in Michael Douglas' throat, PEOPLE reports.

The 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' star, 65, will undergo radiation and chemotherapy for eight weeks. Doctors expect the actor to make a full recovery.

"I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement.

No word whether the lump in his throat is benign or malignant, but doctors expect he'll make a full recovery.

The Oscar-winning actor, 65, is married to Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones. They have two children, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

He has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, first as producer of 1975's Best Picture, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and as Best Actor in 1987 for his role in 'Wall Street.' Douglas received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2009.

Douglas will next be seen onscreen reprising his role as disgraced moneyman Gordon Gekko in the anticipated sequel 'Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,' due out Sept. 24.

I don't know if second hand smoke can cause cancer of the throat, but Catherine does smoke--remember seeing pictures of her smoking after their first baby was born.

In the earlier stages & depending on the cell type his treatments should do the trick. I know many people who have extended lives for many years after treatment for throat cancer.All the best to him & his family.

This is confusing. I didn't think they used chemo on benign tumors. I wish him well. This has to be a big shock.

The article states it isn't known whether the lump is benign or malignant, however,it also states he will be going through chemo and/or radiation. They must know IF he is planned for those treatments. Good luck Michael--wishing you the best, with success in whatever the doctors need to do. Keeping you and your family in my prayers.

A benign tumor is not usually treated with radiation and chemotherapy, so it's most likely malignant. Hopefully the treatment will be successful. Good luck to him.

I pray for the best for Michael and his lovely and taltened family. I'll neverget years ago that I was to meet a girlfriend far a drink at The Saloon" in Hollywood. I looked over my shoulder only to see Mike Douglas standing the doorway. We both had our breath taken away! I lived in the Malibu/Los Angeles area for over 11 yrs. so I was used to seeing the "real celebrities" around & many are very disappointing in appearance and by behavior.....Mr. Douglas was not. I'm usually attratced to tall, darked-headed men also! Mr. Douglas is neither! WOW & what an actor!
