Tumor Discovered in Michael Douglas' Throat

Doctors have discovered a tumor in Michael Douglas' throat, PEOPLE reports.

The 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' star, 65, will undergo radiation and chemotherapy for eight weeks. Doctors expect the actor to make a full recovery.

"I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement.

No word whether the lump in his throat is benign or malignant, but doctors expect he'll make a full recovery.

The Oscar-winning actor, 65, is married to Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones. They have two children, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

He has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, first as producer of 1975's Best Picture, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and as Best Actor in 1987 for his role in 'Wall Street.' Douglas received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2009.

Douglas will next be seen onscreen reprising his role as disgraced moneyman Gordon Gekko in the anticipated sequel 'Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,' due out Sept. 24.

In Feb. 2007 i was told i had tumor in my throat. It turned out to be esophageal cancer. I had 5% chance of living. 11.5 hours in or. 34 days in hospital. 6 mionts recovery at home.
I just wish him all the best and will pray for him.

I have what started as a throat tumor. Did rad and chemo which worked for awhile. Now I've had a laryngectomy and the cancer has spread to my lungs. The future is not pretty. I hope he has better luck.

I hope and pray he gets well.....and fast! Has been my favorite actor since I was a kid. I would race home from school to watch Street of San Francisco. My parents would think I was in my room doing my homework! They thought I worked and studied too hard. (Hope their not reading this, LOL) And my sibs called me a "nerd". In actuality, I was sitting on the edge of my bed staring at Michael, saying I was "In Love".

Had the pleasure of meeting him once for 2 minutes in Manhattan...(long story) but, was a real thrill!

I hope you get a cure. A family member of mine was diagnosed with the same as Mr Douglas. He was told to try Shark Carledgde, and he did try it. He went back to his doctor, and a miracle. No more tumor in his throat. This isn't a cure all for everyone. But, it worked for him. Good luck, Mike.

I am a three year survivor of a tumor in my throat. Chemo and Rad helped. I never smoked, but my husband did. I felt the tumor shrinking after the second treatment. mine was Large Cell Non Hodgens Lymphoma. I am praying for you Michael.

5 years ago i was treated for oral cancer 35 rounds of rads after treatment i was hard to eat, but the blender worked great, after 6 years no trace of it, iam a smoker it was not the cause of the problem. good luck mike !

As far as I know, they don't give you Chemotherapy unless something is malignant.

I wish Michael well. I was treated for throat cancer I never somked. I had to have 75 radiation treatments in my throat. Two times a day 6 hours apart. This type of cancer is very rough. The treatments make your throat very soar and you will usually get a infection with it. I had to have a pump to suck mucus out of my mouth.The only thing that would cut it is soda water.I ended up having to have my gall bladder removed because of the treatment. This type of cancer is very rough on a person . Your throat feels like fire twenty four seven. I lost 60 lbs. in 7 weeks. I hope and pray Michael dosen't have to go thru what I did. I did recover and am doing quite well now. You can recover from this if treated early. Good luck Michael and God bless You.

I have loved Michael Douglas for at least 40 years. The first movie I ever saw him in was called "when a stranger calls". I was immediately impressed and followed his career all these years. I wish him and Catherine the best. They are a very fortunate and talented couple. God bless you both.

Has to be malignant for chemo and radiation. and 8 weeks of treatment not much. my spouse has been on 20 months of chemo and radiation for a 6cm tumor that is still there.So I'd say MD's must be pretty small for only 8 week treatment.

Second hand smoke is BS. Talk to any responsible micro biologist and they will confirm that fact saying by the time smoke goes 1 foot it is diluted to small enough parts per billion of harmful agents
