Tumor Discovered in Michael Douglas' Throat

Doctors have discovered a tumor in Michael Douglas' throat, PEOPLE reports.

The 'Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps' star, 65, will undergo radiation and chemotherapy for eight weeks. Doctors expect the actor to make a full recovery.

"I am very optimistic," Douglas said in a statement.

No word whether the lump in his throat is benign or malignant, but doctors expect he'll make a full recovery.

The Oscar-winning actor, 65, is married to Welsh actress Catherine Zeta Jones. They have two children, Dylan Michael and Carys Zeta.

He has won three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, first as producer of 1975's Best Picture, 'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' and as Best Actor in 1987 for his role in 'Wall Street.' Douglas received the AFI Life Achievement Award in 2009.

Douglas will next be seen onscreen reprising his role as disgraced moneyman Gordon Gekko in the anticipated sequel 'Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps,' due out Sept. 24.

If it's chemo and radiation, it's cancer. They don't give you chemo for nothing. The drugs are too dangerous. Radiation and chemo means he is being treated for something that could be fatal. If you are in the medical field, you know. And, before all you do-gooders jump on me too, read up about it. The chemo itself can kill you so I highly doubt they would administer chemo unless it was cancer. He is a cigar smoker. I believe he was on the cover of Cigar Aficianado (spelling?)with a nice big stogey in his mouth. Doesn't matter though, no one wants cancer and no one "deserves" it. Just a mutated gene that is set off by environment, heredity or a few other things they have discovered.

It makes no sense that they say it's not known if it is benign or malignant. Seems to me he would not be getting chemo and radiation if it was benign. I don't know why they just dont say but the word . The treatment itself says it all.

I absolutely love all Michael Douglas Films. Also I liked the ones with his dad Kirk in. I hope his illness is a wake up call to his son who can find time to make his dad proud. Drugs, substances, tobacco, alchohol all in excess don't do any of us any good. They've a gifted life some will never have anything close. I hope Michael recovers well but he will be very lucky if he does as money can't always buy good health. x

Good luck and God bless you Michael. I hope your treatment goes well. I am also a cancer survivor. I had a bone marrow transplant in June 1998 (I had leukemia). Catherine do not be angry with the doctors. Be there physically and emotionally for Michael.
