Priest Gives Ailing Zsa Zsa Gabor Her Last Rites

Zsa Zsa Gabor's health has taken a sharp turn for the worse following emergency surgery over the weekend, and she has received her last rites from a priest.
The famed socialite's publicist, John Blanchette,
told reporters on Sunday that Gabor "has seen a priest and is not doing very well." He administered the Catholic sacrament Sunday morning at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center with Gabor's husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt, by her side.
"It is a very difficult time for her family," Blanchette said.
Gabor, 93, was in surgery for several hours on Saturday to remove blood clots from her upper body, one of them very close to her heart. At the time, Blanchette sounded hopeful, saying Gabor would likely return home either Monday or Tuesday.
Blanchette said Saturday was Gabor's 24th wedding anniversary with von Anhalt, and the two were unable to have their traditional ice cream celebration.
Gabor had been hospitalized at UCLA Ronald Reagan Medical Center since she broke her hip in a July 17 fall at her home in Bel-Air, California. The actress's condition began to deteriorate after hip replacement surgery a few days later, and she remained hospitalized for the following three weeks. On Tuesday, Gabor's publicist announced the actress had an infection.
Throughout her hospital stay, there were a series of conflicting reports intimating that she was near death (fueled by her husband, Prince Frederic von Anhalt) as well as "going strong" (daughter Constance Francesca Hilton).
Gabor has been partially paralyzed since a 2002 car accident and had a stroke five years ago. Blanchette describes her as "pretty much bedridden and wheelchair-bound for the last eight years."

Boy Lisa....I'm sure glad I'm not one of your parents. What a cruel thing to say...

My parents are elderly, well cared for and cherished.
I obviously wasn't very clear. Vince seemed to think that you shouldn't "waste" the money on a 93 yr. old. I was more from the perspective that you wouldn't let your elderly or injured animal suffer and as you aren't going to euthanize your parents (as you might your pet), that of course you do what you can to relieve their pain. That's humanity.
I agree with you Linda. lisa is an idiot to even have the nerve to say something like that. sure hope her kids has a bigger heart than she does when she gets to be 93. prayers and thoughts are with you Zsa Zsa you made us laugh and smile for many years
Doctors take an oath "First do no harm"...if there is a way to help someone it makes no difference if they are 1 or 101 they will try and help. This is what separates us from the animals. Yes, she is 93 but it is still her choice and if she wants the help she has the right to get it. She has earned it. As to the money spent...as a weathly person she has put more into the SS system & medcare than most of us in a lifetime will do. So she has earned the right to be helped if she so wants.

I resent the post about wasting Medicare money on her. Must be an Obama health care democrat. What a gal she is. Let's hope her last act is to slap the doctor. Go Zsa Zsa -you have had a full life.

Bob Booker- why don't you take your racist hew-haw self back to the woods. How can you turn a story about this dying woman into Obama bashing. Oh I forgot idiots can't follow storyline. Sorry, my bad.
Anyi, you're the racist, you're the one injecting racism into the subject and Bob this is not a political board! Zsa Zsa has had a damn good life and has entertained many well, but there is a time when we all have to leave life here on earth and start a new beginning. Thank you Zsa Zsa for the wacky, but fun times!
No one at age 93 should be having hip replacement surgery. The chances of a deadly MRSA infection are way to high. The fractures should have been stabalized, nothing more. So instead of dying with dignity, she gets to be in horrible pain and spend her last weeks fighting a losing battle with deadly infections. Just because doctors can do something doesn't mean that they should. My question would be "why was she allowed to be in a position to break her hip in the first place?" Poor care for a true star. I wish her peace.

If she is as stubborn as my mother is, I feel for the caregiver(s). Sometimes things happen that we don't have any control over. I know this from my own personal experience of taking care of my mother 24/7/365. Over the past five years, due to her stubbornness and me trying to keep her from getting hurt, I've torn both rotator cuffs, botched up my left knee, broke two toes on my right foot, dislocated my left thumb, and fractured a knuckle on my right hand. At least my mother has never broken any bones, thanks to me catching her or breaking her falls when she refuses to do what she's supposed to do in order to stay safe.
Please don't blame the caregiver(s) unless you were there and saw what happened.
I have a question which has been bothering me since my years xraying at a local hospital. WHY use MAJOR surgery to fix a hip of a person that is already in their 90's and will more than likely NEVER walk again? This woman was in a wheelchair. Why not reduce the fracture externally? I have seen MANY an elderly patient deteriorate after... what I consider useless... hip surgery.
Ms. Gabor... I'm sorry your life had to end this way. God speed.

My father died after breaking a hip in a car accident, he was gone 3 weeks later at age 89. Very heart wrenching and no surgery was done becauase it wasn't a serious break. My heart goes out to her family. The pictures were a real joke, her looking so bad in the ambulance and all the others of her husband. Why not show more pictures during her career? RIP ZSA ZSA
So sorry for Ms Gabor, a lady of charm and style.
Sorry too for visitors to this page, who chose to look through the 43 photos in the "Zsa Zsa snaphots". There must have been eight (including duplications) intrusive and degrading photos of the poor woman strapped onto an ambulance gurney, another 8 (counting more duplications) of her in happier, healthier days, and the remainder, some 25 or more, were all of her husband. Ms Gabor's career as a beauty queen, entertainer and socialite spanned 70 years; weren't there photos available to PopEater that could have showcased events from that life, rather than providing face time for her poseur of a husband? Where are the photos of the Gabor sisters, for instance?
Pretty poor work, PopEater.

We all could have been spared that awful picture of her in the ambulance.. Good thing she'd didn't know about it.

No need to feel sad for someone dying at 93 years old. Hell, I don't think I'll even make it to that age. Most of my family died off in their late 70's and early 80's.

Why hip replacement surgery for someone that is 93? It is called GREED. She has a lot of money and they wanted to get as much of it as they could. With her pretty much bedridden and wheelchair-bound I would think she didn't do any walking already.

HER SISTER EVA, WHO PLAYED LISA ON GREEN ACRES, WAS THE BOMB!

This is a woman that would tell you, if she could, that she was among the LUCKIEST women in the world. She, like so many others today, was famous for being famous...and beautiful. But she didn't really DO anything and that's a pretty good gig if you can get it. She's 93 and she SHOULDN'T have any regrets...she got an awful lot more out of life than most people.

No more of a waste of money than when Mickey Mantle was bumped to the top of the waiting list and received a liver transplant eventhough he had cancer and was a long time boozer. He died shortly thereafter. Same was true for David Crosby.

I know David Crosby is still alive but he was also a long time boozer and druggie and was also bumped to the top of the liver transplant waiting list. Fair?
