Dr. Laura to Quit Radio Show Following N-Word Fit

Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the talk show host who recently apologized for saying the N-word 11 times to a caller on the air, said Tuesday she plans to give up her radio show when her contract is up at the end of this year. The conservative advice maven made the announcement on CNN's 'Larry King Live,' saying she wants to "regain her First Amendment rights."

Schlessinger said she's not retiring or quitting. Instead, she said, she feels stronger and freer to say what she believes needs to be said.

"I want to be able to say what's on my mind and in my heart and what I think is helpful and useful without somebody getting angry -- some special interest group deciding this is a time to silence a voice of dissent and attack affiliates and sponsors," she said.

Schlessinger apologized last week for saying the N-word several times in an on-air conversation with a caller whom she accused of being hypersensitive to racism. She said on her website that she was wrong in using the word for what she said was an attempt to make a philosophical point.

"To imagine that there are people who refuse to accept an apology because they have an agenda and would like me silenced -- I'm done with that," she said.

During the on-air exchange, Schlessinger said the caller, who said she was black and married to a white man, was too sensitive for complaining that her husband's friends made racist comments about her in their home.

Schlessinger told King she "never called anybody a bad word" and "wasn't dissing anybody."

Corinne Baldassano, an executive with Schlessinger's production company, Take on the Day LLC, said the talk show host plans to pursue opportunities through her website, books, podcasts and a YouTube channel.

At least two national sponsors of her radio program, General Motors Co., and Motel 6, owned by Accor SA, have pulled out, Baldassano said.

Previously, Schlessinger's negative comments about homosexuality on her television show in 2000 inspired gay activists to campaign to get her off the air.

It's hard to understand why people ever called this woman for 'advice'. Virtually everyone who calls ends up being chastised and insulted by her, in an exercise that apparently puts her in the role of the principal disciplining the students. Why do people want to be insulted this way?

....There was an old saying :"You cannot get offended by the Truth"(just take it in a way to improve yourself)...Also "Lies and untruth should not affect your feelings or integrity (if you are in possession of such...?!?) Just because, they are what they ARE - LIES and UNTRUTH !!! An other word, you are a DIGNIFIED PERSON not paying attention to "Digging for a quarrel" low life....Some time - most often, for the gleeful pleasures of Lawyers and such! One credit point to give to the radio personality of Dr. Laura is : she put together one devided/polarized nation in a HEN HOUSE...for a time being, at least ! No personal offend, please !

So far I doubt any of these neg blogs have even ever listened to Dr. Laura. She is a no nonsence strieght shooter that actually has morals. And she alone has done more to help people from all groups than anyone else period! All Dr. Laura was doing was tring to help a poor women that has 'political corectness sensitivity disorder'. This has been caused by people cramming the ideology that everyone has done them wrong and owes them everything, and that every thought and action of anyone not in their group is racist. Its time to move forward and recognize that not everything is meant to be racist nor even negative. Move on and grow up and get over it!

Her claim that she wants her "1st amendement rights is so phony. She can say what she wants--I just don't want her paid big time to say what in polite conversationis considered an offense word.
If she had shown more consideration to the caller's need for advise, it would have been helpful to demonstrate the use of the N word as used by Blacks in their everyday conversation is a perogative of that specific group. IT doesn't make it right.
SHe wants the first amendment rights that she never was denied.
