Dean McDermott can now officially vote in the United States! Earlier today, McDermott, along with 3,000 others, was sworn in as an American citizen in downtown Los Angeles, UsMagazine.com reports. The reality star was born in Toronto, Canada. McDermott, 43, spoke to UsMagazine about the event, calling it, "amazing... I was so proud and overwhelmed all at the same time. To take my oath and pledge allegiance beneath a giant American flag is something I will never forget. It was a very special and important day. To quote [singer] Lee Greenwood, 'I'm proud to be an American.'"
His wife Tori Spelling attended the ceremony as well. "I'm so proud that I was able to be by Dean's side... He's wanted this for so long. We stopped for lunch after at Taco Bell and he said 'This is my first taco as an American Citizen!' So cute!" she said.

Interesting take on this. Have wondered this many times myself. I'm a white girl through and through, but wonder what 'melting pot' means here in the USA. Melting as long as the final product is white? Not a fan of illegal immigrants but think it is a hard task to keep them out or return them once they are here. The problem needs to be stopped AT the border not once they cross.
WTF...He was never here illegally. He was legally married to Tori Spelling. The only part I find a bit odd is that if you marry an American Citizen I thought that you automatically gained Citizenship. The only way you lost it was if the two divorced within a certain time period which I would think would have past by now. So not sure why he had to take the Citizenship test. However, as Tori's legal spouse that gave him legal standing to be in the United States so he was never here "illegally" as you seem to think.
Congratuations Dean. You have a beautiful wife and two of the cutest kids I have ever seen. Take good care of them, as I know you will.

A spouse who is not an American citizen but is married to someone who is can apply for a non-quota immigrant visa to get to and live in the US. The non-citizen spouse is usually granted an Immediate Relative-1 (IR-1) visa which enables them to live and work in the US. He receives a green card with that. After 3 years, for as long as the couple can prove they are still married, the non-citizen spouse can apply for American citizenship. In any case, congratulations Dean. Enjoy and be proud of your new country and being an American.
