Why Going to Rehab Has Saved Lindsay Lohan's Career

It's no secret that Judge Elden Fox is considering shortening Lindsay Lohan's rehab stay. According to TMZ, Judge Fox is expected to issue a decision, based upon the opinion of medical professionals at UCLA Medical Center, tomorrow morning that would release the actress from the inpatient program at UCLA and allow her to continue her treatment in an outpatient manner. The actress will reportedly be released as early as tomorrow.

According to sources close to the case, doctors overseeing the actress saw no cause to keep her in rehab for the entirety of the 90 days she was sentenced to by Judge Marsha Revel, who has since recused herself from further proceedings related to Lohan.

However, the 'Mean Girls' star is apparently livid at having had to go to rehab in the first place.

At UCLA, doctors reportedly found that the actress had been misdiagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She was prescribed Adderall to treat the symptoms of the condition, but since she didn't actually suffer from the disorder, the drug was causing the actress a host of other problems – which she was treating with other prescription medications – and may have been the source of her sometimes erratic behavior. It has also been reported that Lohan was easily weaned off of all the prescription medications she was taking upon entering the facility.

"Lindsay is fuming – she is really upset that the courts put her through all this," a source close to the 24-year-old actress says. She is apparently so upset that she is considering legal action, though Santa Monica-based criminal defense attorney Steve Cron tells FOX News, "No judge or prosecutor could be sued under these circumstances, they have absolute immunity."

While it is understandable that the actress may be upset with Judge Revel for sentencing her to an aggressive rehabilitation program when evidence already existed that it was an excessive punishment, Lohan should think long and hard before she causes a ruckus over her treatment, as the confirmation that she does not suffer from the addiction issues many suspected is just about the best thing that could happen for the starlet's career.

Before any Hollywood production gets off the ground, insurance on all actors involved must be in place to protect the project. When actors cause trouble on or off set or are known to suffer from drug or alcohol problems, they become difficult, if not impossible, to insure, rendering them unemployable. Without evidence to the contrary, it was suspected that Lohan suffered from a host of addiction issues, which made her a risk to any production she was involved in.

Now, medical professionals have confirmed that she is not addicted to cocaine or alcohol, as was once suspected. And her bizarre behavior can be explained as having been the adverse side effect of being prescribed a medication she did not need. Psychology Today reports, "When patients take Adderall when they don't need it, it can have very serious side effects, similar to manic behavior by meth or cocaine users. It also creates sleep disturbances and a whole new vicious cycle occurs when the patient starts self-medicating, including embarking on alcoholism."

Not to make light of Lohan's situation, but that sounds about right.

An Adderall-free Lohan is playing an entirely different ball game. Producers no longer need to worry about the risks associated with hiring her. Her health, it seems, is in order (we can't speak to her behavior, she still has a lot to prove in that department), and official medical evidence exists to corroborate what she's been saying all along – that she no longer suffers from a drug or alcohol abuse problem (recall that she has previously received treatment for a variety of issues).

So, perhaps it is in Lohan's best interest to let this one slide. It seems to have all worked out in the end: She served her time for violating her probation, thus ending years of court appearances, alcohol/driver education classes, fines, etc.; she didn't have to serve the entirety of her rehab sentence; she discovered that she'd been misdiagnosed with ADHD; she's been weaned (or is in the process of weaning) off Adderall and other medications, the likely culprit behind the behavior that's made her a tabloid target for years.

She even co-stars in the much-anticipated 'Machete' and is attached to a film ('Inferno') that some are saying could, if executed with the appropriate level of taste, reestablish her as a serious actress.

With word that Lohan is moving to New York to be closer to her family and far from the negative influence of the Hollywood scene, it seems the actress is already thinking more clearly than she has in years. Let's hope that cooler heads prevail when it come to her alleged beef with Judge Revel as well. After all, one would think the very last place Lindsay Lohan would want to step foot into for any reason would be another courtroom.

That was my first thought when I read this piece. If this isn't a malpractice suit waiting to happen, I don't know what is.

But that aside, there is still the subject of Lindsay's behavior off the drugs. She got in with a wild crowd AND she does like to party, and that probably won't change no matter where she lives. If anything, New York is at least as big a party town as LA, and probably worse. Bottom line, she has a lot of growing up to do.

this wasn't a doctor mistake. adderall is the starlet drug of choice at the moment, for staying thin. i don't understand why that is not reported in this story, nor addressed or acknowledged by her rehab people. there is no doubt in my mind that lindsay abused this drug (meaning, she knew she didn't need it for adhd, but wanted it to stay thin- that's abusing a prescription drug for an off label purpose), and knew full well what she was doing. that the other things ran from it is irrelevant. it's like saying a drunk isn't really a drug addict b/c they don't do coke when they're sober. it makes no sense. annoying that nobody seems to get that in her treatment circles- it's widely known by everyone in that world.

Okay, so quick question: Why didn't she see a doctor when all this weird stuff started happening to her? If she wasn't drinking to excess, or using drugs, then I would think that the people close to her would have led her to a doctor to figure out what was going on with her. So, make her stay in rehab, get over herself, and grow up a little.

This is the biggest crock of sh-- I've ever read. Aderall made her drive drunk, do cocaine and all those other drugs. Let's see if your average Joe Blow can get by with that one here in the real world.

Has she learned nothing from this ordeal. She was afterall, arrested for driving under the influence. If the UCLA Medical Center has helped with her health issues, is she not grateful that had she not been there, she would still be out there over dosing on all these incorrect prescrition drugs. Anyone really believe she is a victim? People have been knowingly abusing the drug Adderall forever. Teenage girls lie and make up symptoms to get it in the first place as a way to lose weight. Lindsey is no acception.

thank you! so enraging that her rehab doctors and these reporters are missing this obvious point! the idea that this was all just an unknowing mistake at the hands of a misdiagnosis... PLEASE... and i wish these mf'ing doctors would burn for all of their willingness in doling out these prescriptions that in all likelihood they know are not necessary. maybe her doctor didn't know it was being prescribed to make her thin, and that she didn't have adhd, but, give me a break... and, now what's going to happen when she wants to try to get another doctor to give her adderal so that she can stay thin? will that doctor play ignorant for her business, too? jfk. it's such a f'ing joke.
