Who Wore It Best: Mary J. and Drew Face Off in a Golden Gown

Mary J. Blige and
Drew Barrymore are making sure that a glittering metallic brocade column dress from Catherine Malandrino's Holiday/Resort 2011 line is getting quite the red carpet workout this summer.
Our pals at StyleList noticed that the gorgeous gold gown first showed up on Malandrino herself at the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards in June. Ten days later, the strapless dress popped up on Malandrino's bestie and co-collaborator Mary J. Blige, who wore a silvery version at a benefit for her FFAWN organization at New York City's Cipriani.
Then, on Aug. 24,
Elle magazine cover girl Drew Barrymore chose the gold floor-skimming dress for a screening of her new romantic comedy, 'Going the Distance,' at the Hollywood Theatre in Los Angeles.
While Malandrino, who debuted a pair of eco-friendly totes last spring, kept her accessories minimal -- a metallic bag, bracelet and silver shoes -- Blige and Barrymore added a bit more dazzle.
Singer/perfumer Blige opted for fringed drop earrings, a patterned bracelet, an envelope clutch and mustard-colored shoes, while Barrymore toughened up her look by cinching her waist with a bold black and gold belt paired with a slithering, serpent-shaped cuff, big beaded hoop earrings and gray suede platform pumps.
Drew may rock the golden gown, but she recently showed some cracks in her golden girl facade, revealing that she wanted to
rip a reporter's face off for asking questions about her past. Barrymore has had to answer countless questions about her relationship with Justin Long, as the on-again, off-again couple star in 'Going the Distance,' a romantic comedy.

Mary fills the dress out more than Drew. Drew should have put her hair up, instead of hanging down.
One thing about Mary's look, those tattoos. Tattoos and evening gowns, dont work well together.
Just my opinion.

I agree, the tatts are tacky, although she looks GREAT IN the dress. I just don't like the belt that Drew picked for the identical dress. Both are very talented. And this is MOO.
I couldn't agree more. Why do celebrities think that tatoos and evening gowns are ok together??? Yuck. Drew, you ROCK!
I have always found Mary J to be very sexy and stylish. While I have nothing against Drew, Mary kicks her @ss in this dress.
It's not about the tats it's about the dress. Mary definitely looks better because of her boobs & curves. She has a better body and fills the dress out better. Whereas Drew's chest is flatter and she has no hips and she adds that belt that just makes the dress look tacky.

Mary J ROCKS that dress ... Drew is going for the stringy hair look these days ... Saw her on Letterman the other night.

Mary J COULD HAVE rocked that dress hard if not for those trashy looking tattoos. Take a lesson, ladies...
Drew needed to leave the belt off, fixed her hair and put on some much needed dark lipstick. She looked very sloppy. She could have done better, she is so pretty. Some of this pale lipstick makes a person look dead instead of pretty. It doesn't do to much for anybody. I think the dark colors look so much better.

Are my eyes going batty or is Mary's dress silver and Drew's dress gold?

It says that Mary J. wore the "silvery version" in the article. I personally think she would have looked better in gold, as warmer colors go good with darker skin. Mary J. still looked better than Drew, tats and all.
That white girl needs to hang the dress up, white people just don't have the look and never will, and i don't understand why whites always want to copy us!!

So then I guess "that black girl" shouldn't have straight blonde hair, who's she trying to copy?
If we (white people) don't have the look, why do black men prefer white women. Love to hear your answer!!!!!!
Looks like you are blind as well as having a low IQ Tasha. Is Mary a natural blond? So who is copying who?? One look at her gang banger tatoos is enough to make one vomit. furthermore, what's with all the weird names african americans have, ie. LeCresha, Tupac, the list goes on and on.
I'm so so confused. This show needs a name change. None of the people listed are "stars". Perhaps "Dancing with the Media
Ho--s" would be more appropriated.

Mary J looks like a drag queen in the blonde and tattoos, thank God she can sing.

Honestly I think they both look great. Mary really fills out the dress and there is something about the way Drew wears the dress that makes it look great. I think it helps that the dresses were two different colors. Otherwise a great dress for two beautiful women

Mary J. hands down - up - or on - luv Drew but she's a no show here.

Tish, tish, Tasha. You make it a racial thing. Its a simple matter of style. Get over it. Since you want to make it a racial thing, "Who is the black designer of the dress?" Why straighten your hair like the white people? Again, its about style and what makes an indiviual look good.
